But to what end? A synth, soft or hard, is a musical instrument. The natural market for synths is musicians, so if the musician pays for a synth, who pays the musician? Music is every bit as stolen as the means to its production. I see no evidence to refute the observation that all that the proliferation of cracked audio software has done is create oceans of banal derivative music, all of it being given away.

Just as brick manufacturers have an inescapable interest in the supply of Bricklayers, both have a vested interest in the demand for walls. As long as developers are separated from musicians in the greater market, there’s no real future other than the onward march of freeware.

Not going to read all 6 pages but on page one someone mentioned these products ->Logic 7 ? CRACKED sx 3? SEMI-CRACKED halion 3 ? CRACKED hypersonic 1.1 ? CRACKED yellow tools stuff ? I don't know what this is.

Point is if man makes it man can break it. Respect your user base and get respect in return. Regardless what you do as a developer you will always have some piracy and to think you can minimize that piracy with any protection scheme is just a step into self delusion.

Now if some joker makes an album or is working for money using a "warezed" product then you simply nail his/her privates to the nearest object you can find.

But it remained protected for long enough so that the vast majority of those who were going to buy it in the first place made with the credit card, rather than being tempted by the crack.

May have been cracked eventually, but you can't call whatever their protection scheme was anything other than an unmititgated success when it came to protecting Steinberg's pockets efficiently.

It's neither economically feasible or practical for developers with modestly priced plug-ins to use hardware copy protection. There are already support issues with dongles, and customers are not going to spend $30 for a dongle to run a plug-in that costs $60. Plus the sheer number of effects many have would create a USB hub crisis if many required a dongle to run. Not going to happen.
