First!

Reading through the change log it could be some of you getting poblems with loading state in hosts and/or with ui in windows, see below. the yet unreleased "dev" version seems to fix it, while 1.0.2 is available as release.

If I run into trouble and use the dev branch (https://github.com/jpcima/ADLplug/releases/tag/latest) - Allowed yes/no?

Change Log
dev
Fixed state reloading under certain plugin hosts
Linked to pthread on platforms where relevant
Fixed the user interface using 100% CPU on Windows

Is this two synths in one package? I can’t download to check as I’ve got no computer access this week.

If I run into trouble and manage to build the "dev" Version from source. Allowed yes/no?

Perfectly acceptable. Could also be helpful to others if anyone does run into these difficulties.

They can be downloaded separately. We can use either one or the other.

In the mean time I found that there's even a dev branch release - updated my post above.

This is odd, never had this happen before. I'm running Reaper on an x64 system, I use a lot of VST3 and VST3i plugins. With these two, when I moved the dll from the VST3 folder to my own VST folder, then started up reaper, it scanned them as usual, but they are not showing up on my list of plugins when I try to actually open an instrument track with them. They do show up in the list of "plug ins that failed to scan," and very often when that happens I can just click on the plugin and it works after that. But this time no dice.

With all that said, the VST2 dlls work just fine.

But what could possibly be keeping Reaper from playing nice with the VST3 versions?

(Is there any significant difference between the two versions?)

Happened to me in Cakewalk as well only the vst2 seem to be working.

personally I would never recommend using a vst3 except where there is no alternative available

That's cool but can you say a little about why? As I indicated, I do not know what the difference really is.

From a user perspective, I have yet to see any benefit or advantage to the format. Only negatives. First location of the plugin files is predetermined, unlike vst2, second the categorisation of the plugin is also predetermined and unalterable. I prefer to be able to sort my plugins to suit myself. Third, the preset management is also restricted more than the older vst2 format. Developers do not seem to be particularly happy with it either, and Steinberg is trying to force them away from vst2 rather than encouraging them with better features. Even after all the time since vst3 was introduced it still seems that many plugins are faulty in the vst3 version whilst working well in vst2

change the dll extension to vst3

For clarity, is this a choice of one or the other, but not both?

Yes, Richard noted this above.

My 2 cents here: VST3 is a bit clunky compared to VST2, but the fact many plugins have faulty implementations isn't actually a problem with VST3 but the individual developers. Is it harder to implement? Yeah, it seems so, which is bad for having a lot of people adopt it properly.
However, there is one very specific benefit of VST3: sample accurate automation. This is not possible with VST2.

What a pity the AU fails Logic's validation for me. Anyone else on MacOS having trouble with those?
