I could only see a rental option--is that right?
Doing nothing is only fun when you have something you are supposed to do.

Other Desert Cities by Audio Damage pretty much nails the query of the subject line. Much more than 'just' a delay....

I've been looking into everything turns ensembles for reaktor lately. tons of freaky shit but a bit overwhelming.

His Iota M4L device is insanely good for spectral micro-looping if that’s your thing

Iota looks a winner :tu: wish there was an equivalent VST.

Well that’s a plug-in I haven’t seen in a long time, forgot about it!

Will be downloading again soon :)

Permut8 is still the craziest and most versatile effect to come out in a while. There's also mxxx which is just bananas as far as flexibility while still being in a relatively simple framework. I would put Manipulate from IM/ polyverse up there as well but it has a more narrow use scenario.

For odd effects there isn't much "new" that I've seen in quite a while. Things like PD, SC, Reaktor, or Max/MSP can do pretty much anything you could want to do, but they are more about making things that do exactly what you want in the way you want, and are only really as weird as you make them.

The only other things that really help take sounds to the next level are things like bitwig grid and it's modulation system, or the max 4 live integration into live. Something like plogue bidule can do most of the same stuff in any host, with a bit of work if you really want to go there.

I guess zynaptiq pitchmap would make it near the top of the "doing stuff to signals that you can't really do any other way" pile. Still I'd pick a full "digital modular DSP" system if you want to do things that you haven't heard many times before.
Don't F**K with Mr. Zero.

Man, I left Ableton Live but I really, really miss Iota. Wish it was available as a VST

Oh yes, zynaptiq pitchmap is amazing, i love that one.
I'll check out manipulate from infected mushroom, as far as i remember thats some kind of crazy formant/pitch shifter?

i can program max/msp a bit but I've found that others can do it much better, so I found a better use of my time is to try and research what amazing things other people have done instead, lol.

No doubt about it!

However, MXXX Core is not free ... although it can be had for just over 50 bucks when discounted (which happens several times a year). I think a good strategy here is to pick up the various bundles (especially MCreativeFXBundle and MMixingBundle) when they are offered at 50% off.
