Some time back, UAD's "4K" Buss Compressor and Channel Strip were both originally around $150 each (can't remember exactly), and when they *just* added the SSL logo to the GUI, they added $50 to the price. And existing "4K" owners had to pay $50/each to upgrade to the versions with the SSL badge. No additional features.Tj Shredder wrote: Sat Jun 04, 2022 7:45 amAnd the idea that a brand name could make out a huge part of the final price is pretty absurd…
That's the SSL licensing cost, right there.

I wonder which trademark it should have been? I don’t find any. But they might have had just a wish that it should not sound too similar…

There must be more involved than just the name. They might have given them original schematics and put some extra development in. I doubt UAD is so stupid to add 50$ just for the name, they would rather just skip it… lower prices are directly more sales. Though I have no experience in buying overpriced software in general, those who do might not care…beely wrote: Sat Jun 04, 2022 9:57 amSome time back, UAD's "4K" Buss Compressor and Channel Strip were both originally around $150 each (can't remember exactly), and when they *just* added the SSL logo to the GUI, they added $50 to the price. They had SSL look at the plugins, they made a couple of behaviour tweaks in one of the plugins that UA hadn't got quite right (if I remember it was one of the EQ bands on the channel strip, but might be remembering that wrong), and now they had the official SSL brand endorsement for the SSL. That was it. Yes, the bus comp got *nothing* changed except the GUI, for the $50 fee.Tj Shredder wrote: Sat Jun 04, 2022 2:25 pm There must be more involved than just the name. I didn't upgrade mine. The 4K versions then got "retired" and were no longer available for sale (though still supported)
UA's decision to make their products more appealing with SSL endorsement is one thing, but UA could have eaten that licensing cost (at least for people that had purchased the pre-SSL badged versions), but instead, they wanted their users to pay for it for them.

Not always. Jupiter 8 is now Jup-8. It depends on how litigious a company is.chk071 wrote: Sat Jun 04, 2022 8:02 amYet Arturia pays for using the original synth's names in their emulations.Tj Shredder wrote: Sat Jun 04, 2022 7:45 am Neither Minimode nor Miniverse does contain any part of Moogs brands. anyone else just flat out loving this emu? I was like "meh, dont need to buy another one of these" then I heard it, bought it, and haven't looked back. just FUN to dork around with! I have the Mini V, which sounds fine, and Diva, and several other free clones (which are good in their own way: sounding great, just a lil different) but I find my self opening Miniverse the most. probably because it reminds me of SIMPLE hardware, just does a couple things really easy and really great!
I also own a hardware MG-1, and POLY D (mini clone) and the SURREALISTIC and Miniverse are totally interchangeable. I created a specific bass patch on all four, and, although slightly different - not better or worse, just different - all of them could have been used in my song.

You definitely should not have lost presets. All collections should still be available from the presets dropdown on the upper left. Miniverse does install with its own set of factory presets, but they're the same as those in Minimode (with a few updated fixes). It also imports your User and third-party presets from the Minimode folders.pamier242 wrote: Sat Jun 04, 2022 4:06 pm Did anyone else lose access to all presets when updating to Miniverse?
If you had Minimode, the presets path didn't change (../Library/Application Support/CherryAudio/Minimode/Presets/ on Mac, for instance). It just creates a new subdirectory called Miniverse Presets. Check the path in the General Settings tab, make sure it corresponds to where the presets actually are. If you're still having issues, drop Support a line and they'll help you locate everything and get back to where you were.

BTW, my apologies to the thread. I could have sworn I posted about the name change when I edited the original post. WasteLand got it right, though: we received a friendly request from Moog Music to reconsider the name. We were just continuing our " ___mode branding" tradition with the original name. Neither side was looking for a fight; they just felt that they needed to protect their trademarks, and we get it. We finished off our fundraising effort for the Bob Moog Foundation (not affiliated with Moog Music, btw) and posted the update. If it had to happen, better to happen sooner than later so we can focus on bigger and better things.

Thank you, Robert. Eric sorted me out and I've got them back now.rsaintjohn wrote: Mon Jun 06, 2022 2:03 am You definitely should not have lost presets. seems they have a little more to be concerned about with unionizing than a name tbhrsaintjohn wrote: Mon Jun 06, 2022 2:27 am BTW, my apologies to the thread. Update: Miniverse now includes a function allowing the user to select from a variety of Pitch Bend Range selections. Miniverse will apply the update automatically based on your Settings, or you can update manually. No new download required.
