Win 95, Win7, Win 8, Win 10...

Is there a poll or any information what os daw users have today?
I still use WIN 7 64 bit and it works great for me, most new plugins still work in WIN7
even though minimum system requirements might be Win 10.
I know 14 people who have got a daw and 8 still use Win7.
Devs like Waves might loose a lot of profit, because their new plugins do not run in Win 7 any more!?
I suppose the target of devs are "bedroom" producers first and foremost and not professionals. If a professional is someone who makes his living with mastering, mixing or producing music, there are not too many, I guess, compared to a bigger amount of bedroom producers

What do you think, how many are using Win10 today? 60% of windows daw users? (my guess)

I still use Win10, i'm gonna switch Win11 before the end of the year.
The main problem imo, are the authorization systems, it's a pain in the ass to deauthorize stuff, than redo again in a new installation/pc.
Imo if this workflow would be more user friendly people could upgrade without much pain. I love how FabFilter and Melda work in that regard, not shitty authorization method, and their plugins are also very light (is it correlated?) and very good.

I think it's not a good idea to run an unsupported OS, i think (correct me if i'm wrong) win7 it's unsupported, maybe win8 too?
I don't like to change what i like, win 8.1 for me was the best one, win 10 not so great and win11 look just awful and a mess ads OS. But i don't feel confortable to buy a new pc and to install an older os, i mean there are a lot of viruses and threat that come from web/email you never know what can happen, a lot of years ago (around 20-25) i got a virus from a music website i was visiting 3-5 times per week, i didn't had any antivirus, my bad, but today threat are more subtle and a good updated OS is very important imo.

And there is one good thing to be mentioned, I like quite a lot of Waves plugins, but I couldn't buy their newest plugins. If I had Win 10, I would have bought some of them. Do I urgently need them? No! I have many plugins and a plugin that was good yesterday for me, will still be good tomorrow.
So Win 7 is preventing me from buying too many (Waves) plugins:-)

Couldn't you have added a poll to this thread? Any reason you skipped WinXP or Win98 and went all the way back to 95 ?

Does anyone really use Win 95 in 2022 ? (I don't mean those who are into "retro computers")

I think it would be interesting to get the KVR usage statistics rather than some pulled from the internet. That might actually be useful for some developers.

You'd need to add Mac OS (which version) and Linux (which Distro) to be accurate.

i was on 7 till last xmas, when my computer died so moved to 10, it's actually a lot better even with the older plugs, because the machine itself is so much more powerful than was available when i bought my win7 pc.

Win 10 here.

I just reinstalled it, been suffering from BSOD, apps issues and programs crashing. An earlier backup, with just the basics and fresh install, was corrupt. This new install also wiped out my Ubuntu Grub loader, I should have unplugged all but the Win OS drive. All good now, thanks to Boot Repair.

I don't think statistics from gamers are relevant on an audio forum any more than stats from what OS the insurance companies use. The OP is asking what OS DAWs user have.....
