I guess it's because V4 has just come out, I'm hoping updates are in the works or at least planned, esp the Nori Ubukata one, which by all accounts is a good soundest even if only for V3 (also it's not just for the CS80V anyway but several of their synths, even the Piano V - meant to be used in Analog Lab as some are probably layered).
Yeah, I hope so too. Wondering if they did just that when for instance V Collection 8 came out, i.e. updating their sound banks with a Jup-8 in it, as that one got the full upgrade treatment then.
Meanwhile, great to see my Analog Lab now hosts over 12200 presets :)

I didn't even check it out until today because I just assumed it wouldn't be useful since I own Repro-5, and many people were downplaying the arturia emulation. The new Arturia emulation is actually really good! It doesn't sound like Repro and probably isn't as good an emulation, but it's very, very musical. The way notes combine within chords, the way the attack sounds and how you get a little spritz of high end, the way oscillators combine. So far I think it's pretty awesome and I'll definitely be using it a lot, alongside Repro!
Actually today I was testing out oscillator sync, something plugins are notoriously weak at, and Prophet 5 V actually did an excellent job. I put it up against my Prophet 6 and I was surprised at how it was a bit different, but just as good.
The way the oscillators combine is surprisingly good. A lot of times I have issues with this on emulations.

Upon further experimentation I do think it's harder for me to find sweet spots on Arturia's Jupiter, so I think it's more limited than Repro. I think this is mainly due, for me, to how the high end and resonance sound, but when you find a sweet spot it's really nice.

The question is, the new synths aren't new versions, they are really new synths, build from scratch again, so same features don't really match the older versions. The new Jupiter doesn't have Dual or Layer, don't have the Galaxy Modulation, etc. Of course it would be great if they update the sound packs from the old synths, but it's not an 1:1 situation. I bet that at some point they will release new sound packs for the new synths, but it probably will be a paid new bank (don't quote me on this, it's a wild guess)

Indeed, you’re right, it’s a larger problem than simply updating the sound banks. On the other hand, it seems strange that those older sound banks (like the Vangelis ones) would be sold to someone whose first V Collection is version 9. Or maybe they’ll indicate which synth versions are required for these banks to fully function.

Regarding the inability to import older CS-80 V patches in version 4, I think V1–3 and V4 are just too different for this to be possible.

I tried manually copying a few of my patches to the new version and could not get them to sound even remotely the same. The parameter ranges are really different, and I suspect some of the units shown in tooltips in the new version are showing incorrect values too. By default all the envelope stages have a much shorter time range; change the Envelope Mode to "Long" in the settings panel if you need larger ranges.

And then there's the advanced panel and effects, which are completely different.

It does still load the old one if on your system, I tried it with some of the Synthopoedia patches for the old version
Yes, same here - wwjd just make sure "Include Legacy Sounds" is checked in the top left hand corner menu of Analog Lab.
Weird. Just can’t find this menu item.

It's in the hamburger menu, last item.

Thanks for this info, I had no idea this was even in the menu. I would never have known.

I just tried "Include Legacy Sounds" in Analog Lab V, and that worked for my older CS-80 V3, and Piano V2, with all of the presets. But no legacy presets for my older Prophet V3, it only shows 48 presets for the new Prophet-5 V.

IIRC you may need to restart Analog Lab afterwards. Just checked here I have hundreds of Prophet V3 presets.

Thanks, but...

Restarted the Lab, and nope. Still missing the 803 presets that I have in Prophet V3. That count includes some paid add-on banks such as Tears Tribute. Funny that I can select that bank in Lab and play the presets from it, but it won't let me open the actual instrument!

Something screwy there, opens the legacy one fine here.

There is something a bit odd here though. When I last opened I had to reset one column to be Instrument (was Designer), but then it wouldn't sort correctly using the up down arrows. Another restart cured it.

If I change the 3rd column to "Instrument" I can see all 13,828 presets listed in order by instrument. If I select a Prophet V3 preset from that list, I can open the full (older) instrument.

But I can't find a way to Explore by instrument in the selection row above that shows presets only for that older synth. I could do that before the Analog Lab update.

Ah yes, agreed. The explore / instruments list seems to not include the Prophecy legacy instrument, but the column-sorted instruments does. Curiously, the CS-80 shows both old and new in explore / instruments. I suspect it's some foul-up connected to the fact the old Prophet instrument split in two - could be worth dropping Arturia a line.
