Hi

I owned a Wavestation EX for several years. Wondeful synth. Very good performance instrument, great sounds, great effects and a nice feeling keyboard too. It would make a nice master keyboard for your rig.

I didn't think programming it was very difficult at all.

There are two potential issues to look out for:
- sticky keys: Wavestations were known for developing keyboard faults over time. You might want to check this out before buying.
- Resonant Filter: The Wavestation doesn't have one. You can simulate an oscillator sweep using a wavestable, but it isn't very convincing. You won't be recreating any vintage sounds with a Wavestation.

I played around with one of these at Guitar Center during the summer and was mighty impressed with the sounds this synth made. Being a lover of pads and atmospheric sounds this would be the best choice for me to round out my hardware synth collection. I don't really need it but I have the cash and want to get myself a Christmass present.

Anybody have one of these? I understand it is a bitch to program but I am game. Any thoughts or suggestions?

No I do not want the software version, this is cheaper. 8)

I owned an original WS minus all the lovely extra waveforms for several years. I sold it back over a year ago though. If you didn't play with it enough, the keybed does get sticky, at least it did on mine. The fix wasn't too hard, but I was too lazy to get in there, as I usually only used it as a tone generator anyway, and not as a master keyboard.

As for programming it, be prepared to hit a lot of arrow keys repeatedly. ;) Scot 'The Typewriter' Solida could tell you plenty about programming it though. If you're spoiled from programming in VSTi-land, you're going to get grumpy programming it. Using something along the lines like Sound Diver or the MusicQuest doodad would help you immensely compared to leaning over the screen hacking away at the interface.

I have a Wavestation SR gathering dust. Anyone wanna buy it? :D
Incomplete list of my gear: 1/8" audio input jack.

just curiously wondering how much would you want for it

I had an A/D for a couple years myself.
Devon's right;unless pushing buttons pushes YOUR button, get a good editor
if you don't own Sound Diver or the like already.
You're in for some fun;that's for sure.
Oh...and Mike's right.Xphraze is the 21st century Wavestation :)

I too have a setup for live use and for mixing with the computer.

I like to have the option of a creative unit away from the PC, and one big creative unit combined with the PC. I use a Triton as my "away pc" sequencer/sampler, and it's hooked to a couple other syths. They are all combined in the studio with the PC and the great software. But it's nice to say " Im going to create stuff away from the pc today" and have that option. It also sets you up for live use.

So I see where the original poster is coming from.

I am actually use to that, my Evolver has very few knobs and it is not getting in the way of tweaking.
I will get one of the editors and do most programing there with the occassional edit in the Wavestation so I can get the experience.
I also will someday get xphrase too, never a problem with too much gear :)

My feelings exactly. I have been trying to formulate two modes of working and that may mean getting out and jamming with others or playing in clubs, and until I can afford a really good laptop this will be my two setups.
