I'm switching to another DAW, and wondering if there are any advantages to keeping 2 DAWs instead of just selling the one I don't use anymore.
Thoughts?

Do yourself a favour, sell it immediately. Use only one DAW. Become a fanboy of a new DAW and forget about others. It will help you create music instead of comparing and complaining about DAWs.

Sell! Sell! Sell! But wait until You're sure you've made the right decision to swap.

They don't take up much room on the disk, leave it there. If you are concentrating on the new DAW what does it matter if the old one is there.

I never uninstalled FL Studio when I went to Cubase, and now I use both.

I got sick of Reaper which I had used since v0.43 so I bought FL Studio, Studio One and Bitwig. It was worth working in those for a couple of years but in the end I sold S1 and Bitwig and would sell FL if I could. Reaper is the one and the only other one that is attractive is Ableton Suite because of Max for Live. And I doubt I will bother.

Sell it. Concentrate on one DAW.

Well... you asked. ;)

That said, better make up your own mind. We all work differently.

I suppose it depends on how you work. I use Cubase in a traditional manner; and Ableton Live session view takes my thought process in a different direction when I choose to work that way.

Good advice, I use Studio One and tried to get to grips with Reaper. Reaper might have to go.

If you've found the one that does everything you want, stick with it.

On my new computer, I only installed Studio One. I will keep it that way. Having other DAW's installed was a waste of space, and a distraction.

I'm looking to move to Ableton, and not being able to sell FL is a bummer. I totally get why I can't sell it on, but I bought the "everything" bundle (or whatever it's called) and I've now realised there are better workflows out there. I really find FL's pattern workflow annoying now.

I'm having to sell off some of my VSTs to help fund the move, instead of being able to sell the DAW.

I am not sure how Live works for audio editing - Reaper is superb at that - so if you do a bit of linear audio it might end up being worth also getting Reaper at some stage to complement Live. FL, Bitwig are not at all good at audio editing except at sample/loop lengths. Studio 1 has some great features and workflows but I could not get a workflow that was as good as Reaper for what I do.

Also isn't Live also pattern / clip based? You might find that annoying as well given you didnt like Fl

Ableton Live and Bitwig have two parallel workflows, one is with the Session View (Clip Luncher) and one with Arrangement View (linear).

I also have FL Studio, but I bought it (or win it) in the charity as no one outbid me :hihi: Anyway, FL Studio is fantastic for beat making but for me I begin to struggle with the patterns. FL Studio shortcuts and general workflow is not for me as I didn't start with it 22 years ago, but I started with Logic/Cubase.

I understand that for someone that started with FL Studio (or Fruity Loops) is a great DAW and can't be satisfied with another DAW easily, but Ableton Live/Bitwig they sit in the middle as I see users from FL Studio from one side and from Cubase/Logic from another, migrating to Live/Bitwig easier than the vice versa.

Personally, I use mostly three DAWs (Live, Bitwig and Cubase). Fl Studio and S1 are uninstalled, so personally I don't see a problem having more than one DAW. The problem is to concentrate on one song till finishing it. Working on each DAW might make me use different tools and workflow and sometimes that affects the way the music making is going.
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Reason 13, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.
