When and if can we expect NI Komplete Kontrol Keyboards update with the same or improved engine as Machine Plus…?
It has been more than 3 years since NI S-Series keyboard was released…
We are definitely due for update soon but, will it be this year and will it bring Machine plus features?

Post

Not really sure how the keyboards could be ‘updated’ to have the features of Maschine plus, unless you mean can we expect a new range of keyboards with built-in audio interfaces and computer that can host Maschine, Komplete Kontrol and some NI plugins internally?

tbh I think Maschine plus is too limited for me, can’t even host Massive X internally, has a weak cpu and still incapable of supporting keyboard aftertouch.

Perhaps these are reasons NI is not releasing/updating their keyboards…
I’m still on S49 first edition and loving it but, was hoping and still am, for new NI keyboard this year…

I don’t think anybody here knows if/when NI will release KK mk3, but if they do, they’re probably precluded from saying anything by their NDA. Anyway, I posted my thoughts/wishlist on this in a similar recent thread:

TLDR, I think that whatever NI releases, it will be designed first and foremost to further lock the user into the Komplete/Maschine environment to sell more NI software and expansions. That may be a good thing for many/most users (you certainly get a huge bang for your buck from NI) and it makes good business sense from their POV, but I really wish KK had better utility as an all around controller.

Native Instruments, I´m so done with them! :x

I bought a Machine Jam when it was released 2016 to complement my Komplete Kontrol S49 MK1.
Unfortunately these two don´t play very well together, especially when you want to use the gear on stage and I reported the issue to NI immediately.

Nothing happened.

Some others went into the same trap later even with the newer Komplete Kontrol S MK2 and made a feature request thread in 2018:
https://www.native-instruments.com/foru ... ck.324423/

Here you can see that it is a real showstopper, in the truest sense of the word:

Still nothing happened.

Now we have 2022 and got ... a new NI forum.
This problem is still not adressed.

I had invested hundreds of bucks in NI hardware and software, especially for NKS and Maschine expansions and couldn´t use them as imagined, so I gave up and changed to an Arturia Keylab MK2.
Never touched the hardware and software since then and stored it in my basement.

With NI only one thing comes to mind, a huge disappointment!

If you ever want to get rid of the "trash", send me a PM, and I can send you my address. Would gladly take it from you. ;)

Never heard of this issue before…
Either you have a faulty keyboard or there is some kind of software issue.
You are Windows?

It is no faulty device and has nothing to do with the OS, it is by design.
The NKS and Maschine developers just didn´t work together very well in the past.

But that´s typical for NI,they´re giving you a quite good device to start with, but when you get more experienced and want to do more with it, you´ll discover that there are things that just don´t work.
You would have to upgrade to more expensive NI gear or quit their eco system.

Not to forget the bunch of users with very little musical knowledge who are demanding the strangest workflow implentations at all costs.
I never could understand why it is more likely that NI delivers the strangest things instead of fixing serious demands from more educated users, but that´s another story.

In my case Maschine was meant to host the VSTi I wanted to play live on the keyboard and songs and provides additional backing clips.
I wanted to start a show playing a synth solo on the KK and start a bass loop with my left hand from the Jam.
The moment you hit a pad on the Jam, it switches the MIDI focus of the Komplete Kontrol to the Maschine group containing the loop.
Or better explained, it changes the active preset you´re just playing and there´s no way to change this behaviour.

Feeling the exact same way. Ton of potential in the hardware itself, but the potential has been left to rot on the vine with poor software, which is bizarre for a company previously leading the industry on that front. Then again, they've lost a good chunk of their engineering talent over the years, all of whom have landed on their feet elsewhere or with their own brilliant projects.

Lack of PDC is a killer. Same on MPC though.

There's a lot of implied depth to the NI hardware, but when you've used it for a few years, read the manuals front to back several times over, and concluded that you still must be stupid to not be able to figure out how to xyz, you ask on the forum, only to discover that it in fact doesn't do something extremely obvious that's a standard on every other solution for the past twenty to thirty years. Utterly basic stuff that you just take for granted elsewhere.

Anyway, they banned me from their forum the other day as their current forum staff don't believe that the customer is always right.

On the hunt for replacements for Maschine MK3, KKMK2, and Jam, but honestly feels like all that's on the market are toys rather than professional tools. Even the beloved Doepfer LMK keybed has a mediocre Fatar action. Gaping void in the market for a high quality 88 key controller that's an all-in-one solution that isn't using a woeful TP100L/R keybed.

Essentially, I want a modern MPK88 or SL MK III, with a keybed that does it justice, faders, pads, infinite rotary encoders, and a sensible UX akin to the SL MK III. 88 keys with a decent action a must.

Looks like someone beat NI to the punch

What about the Roland Fantom-0 series? The pads aren't velocity and pressure sensitive, but everything else looks pretty good though I haven't really looked into it myself to see about the quality.
