That is entirely fair!

But tell you what - so much has come out of these threads (esp from Mario) that should be on your CLAP page. You need a basic FAQ that says what it is and isn’t - will it replace VSTs? Is it a wrapper? Is it a new platform? Can it turn single core to multi core? That sorta thing would be v helpful.

Yes, I'm sure something like that must happen.

But then again, apart from one particularly indigestible thread in a competitor's forum, I think the response is overwhelmingly positive, and we're happy to answer all those questions.

But other companies are allowed to produce the counter part and make peripherals for users to buy. So now people invest not only in the phone but also in peripherals which will only ever work with that kind of adapter that A uses. When an owner of that phone wants a new phone, he needs to again buy a phone for A if he wants to keep using the peripherals he or she invested in. That is platforming.
So VST and AudioUnits are standards, and AAX and MAS are platforms.

So why do we need yet another standard?

It is improper internet etiquette to sign a forum post, since everyone can already see who wrote it.

No, they are also platforms.

Post

No, as per Urs’s definition, VST and AU are standards, as they are not tied to a specific host. Only AAX and MAS are.

"Standards aren't usually owned by single participants while platforms are". Both AU and VST are owned by single participants.

"Standards have transparent governance rules". Neither VST nor AU have this. They're entirely at the whim of Steinberg or Apple.

I’m not seeing much benefit at all. I have just about all the plugins I need, they already do everything I need them to do, and I have several hosts that they run in cross-platform.

It’s been a long time coming for all the plugins I want to use to finally be 64-bit, VST3, and M1. I have only a couple left that are still waiting for VST3 and/or M1 support.

So I’m in no rush to start all over from scratch just because a few disgruntled developers want to reinvent the wheel. That sounds like years of heartache and expense and lost plugins all over again, for someone else’s benefit, not mine. No thank you.
