I'm wondering which reverb is better between eventide blackhole vs NI Raum? Both seem to other spacey reverbs. I'm asking because I'm interested I'm getting the blackhole for $29, but I have a bunch of reverb plugins already. I'm wondering if it's worth spending $29 for another plugin which may actually sound the best for ambient reverb out of all that I have.

Here's a clip I recorded of both being used. I feel as if the eventide sounds more smoother, but I didn't really do much tweaking to either.

To add... if you haven't tried it yet, would encourage you to try it, and it is cheaper than both :) ($0.00)

I have all three and this is the one I prefer:

I'm of the opinion of: if it does a specific thing really well, and that's I thing I might use, then get it. I have a lot of plugins, but oftentimes, I'm using one plugin for one specific thing. Blackhole does Blackhole sounds well. Don't even need other presets - just start with Blackhole and adjust to taste. :) Those types of plugins will get used frequently here.

ValhallaSupermassive does a similar thing and is free, but has a lot more options. So if I'm specifically after a Blackhole sound, and sometimes I am, I just load the Eventide. If I want a massive, clean verb, that's where Supermassive comes in. And Raum, I personally never used in a project. I feel like Valhalla or Eventide can do some of those sounds better, despite Raum being excellent.

I actually didn't spend a lot of time with Raum except before it was released..
This thread got me to try it again..
I actually really like it.. it goes back in my essential plug in list..
It sounds great and easy to use...

But, I only bought the Blackhole a few days ago so I honestly don't know to use it well and I kept hearing about BlackHole without really knowing the sound.. That is I don't have the emotional connection with the sound that I am aware of anyway.

Raum is much more versatile. But, Blackhole does what it does extremely well. Both are very easy to use, so, they're both good choices.

I would suggest, if you are liking any of those three.
You might just need all of them.

I actually wanted to suggest that too. :D

Just get them all. Won't hurt your wallet too much. ;)

I concur with a lot of these comments. Blackhole is instantly perfect for huge rich spaces. Raum is great for more shimmery stuff, and a bit more versatile. Adore both.

I didn't really get on with Supermassive, just didn't sound as tingly as either of those, but it does have the delay element built in.

That's my issue with all of Valhalla's stuff. Always sounded a bit over the top and synthetically exaggerated (in lack of a better description) to me.

I feel like that's a feature, not a bug.

That's what I'm thinking in regards to Eventide Blackhole. I may just get it because I like the subtle and smooth sound I got in that video compared to Raum which seemed more in your face.
