Sigh, just can't resist a good sale

Post

If you bite on this, get it from a reseller and save a few bucks. Don't waste the $9 like me.
I bet they had a timer on it so all the suckers would buy it direct. That's the kind of lame
tactics they have to resort to, at least the price isn't frozen like with Bitwig or something.

*Notice the wording in the email, like it was a special offer only for you from Reason direct.
Always check the vendors before jumping the gun. It's only $9, still it's annoying that they
even do it. I feel like I got caught by a fishing email, and I guess I did.

End rant...

yep my last two updates I bought directly from them and then a few days later my online software store of choice audiodeluxe had them cheaper. One would think I would remember/learn after the first time :). But i saw the email and went and bought it immediately. Again :).

Around 70 for me. I am happy with what I got, crisp graphics, Mimic, the new Combinator, sounds. Mainly the GUI. A four hour sound design session in front of V12 is just more enjoyable.

Not only is it annoying that they try to bleed you for every penny they possibly can, stuff like this
and price fixing, is no less than anti-competitive. It really should be illegal imo. Some vendors
are able to leverage their customer base to their advantage and take less profit on individual sales.
They make their profit overall and pass some savings on to their customers. These kinds of tactics
are specifically designed to prevent that, they literally do not want you to be able to get a break,
and are strong arming the vendors against running their businesses as they like. It's lame...

*Don't fall for it.

It is the same in all industries and companies.
If you want it now you have to pay the price or you wait until you see a price that interest you.
When a company is based on shareholders or Investors the Investors demands a quick payback for the time and money used to make the product.

When that is done they need to add sales and lower pricing every now and then to keep the shareholders and Investors happy and if they don't they are forced to shut down.

You see the same Trend on Steam too where new games start at around $60-$80 on Release and if you find a game you want you put it in your wishlist and buy it 1 or 2 years later when you can get it at around $10-$20.

Having fixed the issues in Reason 12, we are now working full throttle on VST3 support.
So update to 12 not looking very tempting.
The following was stated on Reason Talk forum...

To be really clear, native M1 support and VST3 will be added to Reason 12 and be free upgrades for Reason 12 owners. That's where our focus is now.

VST3 is old news now, where is CLAP ;=)

Huh. I stand corrected, I guess! Would be nice if it they put it this way on their own website.

It's even my main host actually - but so far I didn't really notice any differences, the updating-while-typing-in-the-search-field thing aside (which I find more irritating than anything), so actually even the 65 or so € I paid was too much for that sad excuse of an update here...

VST3? Wake me up when Reason starts supporting ARA, which would for a change be something worth wasting any words on... but then again: what do you expect from a company where even adding support for VST3 seems to be a major task? Not much, not much indeed! Perhaps all good coders have left the sinking ship by now, maybe the lad who is doing the DSP aside, which would explain why they keep coming up with new devices instead of working on the main app.

Edit: loads of typos....

I think the fact that they need to sell it at such low price shows how much they (and some notable others) are struggling in such a competitive marketplace...especially as the progress seems so slow. Regrettably, with a big global recession looming I suspect things will only get worse for 'non essential' purchases or subscriptions.

It could also be that it is priced to high to begin with.
It is also a Clever marketing trick where you price something high and then have sales which makes people Jump on it (Like me) :hihi:

I did test Reason 12 when they had the Cheap 3 month Reason + offer and the first versions where horrible and didn't always work like it should.

So i was pleasant surprised when i bought the Upgrade and saw that most of the V12 problems where fixed + i love the New Zoom Function but it would have been even greater if only the Rack part where affected since everything else is big enough as it is.

It is priced to high, the market has changed in software, so much amazing free stuff and a lot of it as good or better than the rack instruments and fx (especially the old ones). The Reason team are really going to have to step it up to compete if the 'rack' concept is going to stand up against modern DAWS.
