I need a soundfont (or some other sampled format) of a
soft-mallet jazzy vibes - if you know the name Lionel
Hampton, you know what I mean.
All of the other soundfonts I've checked so far have
been too bright/hard-mallet (orchestral style) and I'm
looking for something for soft jazz production.
Thanks.

I know what you mean and I'm still searching for such a soundfont myself. But check this thing I did a while ago and if you dig the sound of the vibes, I'll send you the font right away.
[it's a small download, don't worry].

Cool Vibes is the best I've found.
It even mimics the sustain pedal so you can get those soft jazzy harmonies.

Aren't there any synths dedicated to making realistic metallophone sounds? It seems like something Tassman should be able to handle, but I don't think I've ever heard a vibes patch from it.

Dave Samuels Marimba and Vibes. Really sweet and meaty sounding.
