Hi,
For an Audio course in my Game Design studies, I'm looking to use some plug-ins, such as Fluffy Audio's Simple Flute.
This one in particular requires the full version of Kontakt 4.2.4. As the DAW, I'm learning with and installed Ableton trial, 34 days remaining, perfect for the course. From several hours of research, I'm asking here, which seems to be the best place to ask.
What would be the best way to get Kontakt 4 in 2022?
The installation-zips from the links for installers from native instruments's ftp is not archived by the Wayback Machine, I haven't found any on Sell & Buy, and none on Ebay.

I think anything made for Kontakt 4 will work in the most recent Kontakt 6 (free) as well.iofh8uiwafnsg78 wrote: Wed Jun 15, 2022 4:55 pm [...] Fluffy Audio's Simple Flute. This one in particular requires the full version of Kontakt 4.2.4.
I do question whether delving into a sample library that emulates a real flute player is a proper learning exercise. Unless ofcourse the course tells you to, and includes other types of plugins as well. I think you'll find more usage in analog synth plugins that can make weird (un)natural noises.
There are completely free DAWs such as Cakewalk by Bandlab. Reaper has an unlimited (in time and features) demo.

Note that the demo version of Kontakt may have restrictions on how long you can use it for. I believe its 15 minutes at a time.
Also, just to point out that it does say on the Fluffy Audio Flute webpage that you can use a later version.

Full version of Native Instruments Kontakt 4.2.4 or above is required

For game audio production, Cockos Reaper is an industry-standard, and you'll see it required in most job offers. So if you want to be 'compatible', go for Reaper.
Of course, you can use Ableton for sound design but treat it as your 'personal instrument'. you'll not see it in the audio room of a video game studio.
Fluffy Audio's Simple Flute requires MINIMUM Kontakt 4.2.4 or newer. They used the word 'or above', which may be misleading. So don't bother and just go for the latest Kontakt version.
For game audio, it's worth investing in the entire Komplete collection, where you'll get Kontakt + tons and tons of other instruments, effects and samples that are used in-game audio (and music). I was able to get Komplete quite cheap with a student discount (use it while you can
)
But for learning purposes, it's better to get a subscription. Native Instruments has one, but it's a bit poor and doesn't include Kontakt, unfortunately.
If you want orchestral instruments for game music, nothing can bit Composer Cloud+ Edu subscription: $9.99/month for an enormous library of orchestral, world instruments, vocals and other sample libraries which are used in games and movies. If you would want to have equivalent libraries in Kontakt, you would need t o spend several thousand $
Scroll down and click 'see more plans'. Educational is the last one. https://www.soundsonline.com/composercloud
Ps. I wrote this thinking that you study audio for video games. But if you're studying another department like design and audio is just an additional subject, then a subscription is the best option because a lot of sample libraries can't be resold.

I'm lucky because I have freedom of choice at work, and I use Cubase, which has been my main DAW for many, many years

Hahah, same here, Reaper is like ye old Logic was; here is the sea, swim in it, swim in it forever... before you can make anything.pixel85 wrote: Fri Jun 17, 2022 3:03 pmI also work in this industry, and the majority of studios that I know (I mean sound designers working therelegendCNCD wrote: Fri Jun 17, 2022 2:07 pmWhaat.. it is regularly used in audio room of a video game studio!pixel85 wrote: Thu Jun 16, 2022 2:50 pm For game audio production, Cockos Reaper is an industry-standard, and you'll see it required in most job offers. Yeah what I've seen Live is more used as you said for the sound design as its so fast to do things in it. Just throw them there and press play <3

Contrary to that, stats would show that my threads are among the most popular of the active members on KVR so what you perceive, as inane, really doesn't reflect with the wider community.whyterabbyt wrote: Sat Jun 18, 2022 4:10 pmNot as much as your inane posts.THE INTRANCER wrote: Sat Jun 18, 2022 3:59 pmNew members should be vetted first by mods.

You have a pretty warped view of people you've never met in the world. I'm not here for attention, and never have been in the 21 years I've been using forums across a spectrum of areas from computer graphics to music and technology. I share my skills, knowledge and work on things I have developed and people benefit from it... and in return I learn new things and how to better what I do. I know how to engage people, and make people happy. I only post occasionally, but I know that if I had made 30 thousand posts on a forum, it would certainly impact me in a no so positive way, and lead me to think I'd have some sort of social dependency in always wanting attention...but I don't so rather than trying to accuse people of things, how about looking at yourself in the mirror.
