I find layering for most synths is useful. My bass would be 2 or 3 layers to get the attack and body sounds better. Most percussion elements are likely to be modelled with up to 3 layers. Similarly, a piano would have many layers to model the response across the 88 note range. Some synths can let you work with incredible detail to model this but in general, layering to reflect the sound across the instrument's range works quite well.

Yeah, it might make sense to layer other synths, but when the synths get too complicated, it might be hard for me to know how to make them blend since I'm new. Not that blending is the only goal. (Is the Sound Design forum a good place to try to learn about this? Or some place simpler?)

Thanks!

Well I was pretty disappointed at first with this but after designing sounds for the first half of the month with ADLplug at the end of the day at least I will have a very interesting and peculiar IDM Chromatic kit for Sitala.

I usually struggle with drum sounds but this thing spits out lovely chromatic percussion so easily.

Is there any way to split the different channels into separate audio outs? or are you limited to one out for all channels

Post

The challenge this time around wasn't so much coming up with a tune-filled track, but trying to get OPNplug to sound as fat as possible! Nevertheless, here is my entry, a sultry little dance ditty called "Danse Exotica." It was created in Cubase 12. Most of the effects were stock/standard Cubase with the exception of the free clip plugin GClip by GVST.

One out only, and no panning for parts either.

Anyone get the Channel 10 banks to work in Live? Looks like Live always sends channel 1 to VSTs. Even when playing from a channel 10 controller.

Well, it annoyingly takes 2 tracks: the first load the plugin and set to monitor off, the second set midi output to the track and the last dropdown you can choose channel 10, like this:
Live ADLplug channel 10.png
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

I´m more than happy to accept any feedback were it positive or negative. Everyone knows that if you don´t get any feedback it´s a lot harder to improve your skills. Thanks again everyone who commented to my previous track!

# of instances of ADLPlugin:
10 (1+1+3+3+2)

(don't really want to count instances of these, but hey)
Plugins that came packaged with my freeware DAW, Cakewalk:
Sonitus Compressor x (3 on tracks + 5 on buses)
Sonitus Multiband (Compressor) x 2
Sonitus Reverb x 3 or 4
Sonitus EQ x 1 or 2

More specifically the plugins that came packaged with my DAW as part of the Prochannel:
Equalizers: 7
Max (a compressor-limiter) knobs: 3
Saturate ('softtube'): 1
Compressor PC-76u: 2
Compressor PC-4K-S: 1

I really want to add a modulator to the kick, subtle and dramatic, but that shall have to be for the remix.

Free Imaging Plugins (anyway I could only use one at a time):
Voxengo Span
YouLean 2 (Free)
TBProAudio mvMeter2 (VU meter)

Other freeware plugins that did not come with Cakewalk:
ReaEQ (Open Reaplugs by Cockos) x2

# of these plugins that were useful: not provided.

A few automation lanes. (This is the real way to go.)
