Thanks for putting me on the right track with the Pitch thing!! One least annoying thing in the list, awesome!Sampleconstruct wrote: Mon Jun 20, 2022 8:58 pmThere's individual pitch/gain/panning for each layer, just click on the unlock button next to each parameter name.Neon Breath wrote: Mon Jun 20, 2022 8:21 pm After demo'ing for 2 days, I kind agree with some of you here.
Novum is indeed very powerful and stunning, but yeah it still feels a bit rough in some areas. Like having independent filter instead of a global one, same for Pitch in the SYN section, doesn't make sense to not be able to have different pitch for each layers, better FX routing on individual layers, etc. Some random features could be useful too, like generating random envelopes or random timbre flower colors.
But it's just been released so I guess (well I hope, no idea if Dawsome are keeping their plugins updated on regular basis) it will get updates with improvements. Hopefully... Gonna still demo with my entire 90 days demo licence to make sure I like it and it's not just an honeymoon phase, but it's definitely one hell of an ambient - experimental machine!

Ah i'm fine with dragging samples over from the Ableton browser. It was just dragging the presets folder over to the software to register it I was having trouble with. But thanksblacklightmartin wrote: Mon Jun 20, 2022 8:17 pmHey all, fireapplered wrote: Mon Jun 20, 2022 7:58 pmWoah... mind blown. The VST window vanishes when clicking outside of Ableton. Is there a work around for D&D in Ableton? I seem to remember it's always been an issue.
The method is to shrink the Live main window, so that you can place your Finder window visible in the 'gap' outside it, with the BASIC folder or audio file you want to drag visible.
You click in the Live window to re-focus it, then select the Finder file by clicking/holding it and immediately dragging it to Novum.
I do it automatically all the time.

This is actually even easier than Spitfire31 described! There's no need to resize Live's window in order to do this:
So, you have Ableton Live open with a track containing Novum, maybe even in a fully zoomed window. Novum is open (its UI is visible). What you do to load a sample is:
- Switch to Finder (I am assuming here you already have a Finder window with your sample open)
- Drag the sample you want somewhere over Live! Yes, Novum will not be shown any more once you have switched to the Finder, but fear not - as long as you somehow hit the Live window, everything is going to be fine. Do not release the mouse/sample yet!
- Wait a split second (maybe a tad more), and Novum will reappear.
- Move sample over to Novum's sample area and let go of your mouse.
At least this is how it works over here (MacBook Pro, Monterey 12.4) - give it a try!
I'm loving this software. Makes some lovely instant atmos. I was planning on buying Quanta but this came out just in time.

Sure thing! I am Peter V, aka Dawesome, and I am fully dedicated to keep my plugins updated and to take user feedback serious. Also you can expect feature updates that extend the sonic possibilities. Novum is here to stay, and I have many plans for the future ...Neon Breath wrote: Mon Jun 20, 2022 8:21 pm But it's just been released so I guess (well I hope, no idea if Dawsome are keeping their plugins updated on regular basis) it will get updates with improvements. I am not a big company, and I don't aim to become one - I am an "indie" developer. This means I am very approachable and I am always happy and grateful to get suggestions. I find it encouraging how well the community here is discussing various aspects and also made a lot of good proposals that will find their way into Novum.

Got it yesterday for 92€ from jrr . Seems reasonable to me for all it does. Fun to play with. At first I thought the patches kinda sound all the same, but I was dragging and dropping from the patch list to the sample window instead of the patch selector…

Yeh, I did that as well until I watched the video! The standard pre-set selector is buried at the bottom of the main (burger) menu and called 'basics', so easy top miss! Personally I would put that somewhere more accusable and obvious- its top bar stuff!sQeetz wrote: Tue Jun 21, 2022 9:39 am Got it yesterday for 92€ from jrr . Seems reasonable to me for all it does. Only watched a few of the videos on YouTube so far, this synth definitely looks promising, going to have to demo it fully. Well done on releasing an interesting synth/sampler that can deliver new possibilities.

I'm not sure the main menu is the best place for it - could it be integrated into the patch selector? Maybe left click opens the preset menu, right click to change the name or something along these lines?PetVor wrote: Tue Jun 21, 2022 1:51 pmYes, you are totally right! Also, is there a way to get a preview function? Both for entire presets in the patch list on the left, but particularly for individual layers so I can hear first what I am about to drag into my current patch. Otherwise it seems purely a game of chance. (Or, if I don't want to leave it to chance, I guess I would need to find a preset that includes the desired sound as a layer, solo all the layers to find out which layer is the one I need, then open the other preset into which I wanted to replace it, find the previous preset in the patch list, hopefully still remember which layer it was and drag it in - that seems a lot more cumbersome than it needs to be!)
PS: Fantastic synth though, having great fun playing around with it!

I didn't even get a loyalty discount for owning Abyss so didn't even know there was one, but sounds like JRR is the best deal regardless of loyaltyCaine123 wrote: Mon Jun 20, 2022 8:19 pm the JRR deal is really awesome, i find it pretty lame from Tracktion to offer a loyalty discount for Abyss users and a retailer is even cheaper. loyalty lol
