i5-12400, Asus Prime H670 Plus D4, opinions...?

Hi. I am about to order new PC (desktop for now as it is virtually impossible to find a good and affordable laptop). Just wanted to do last check that components I am about to use don't have any known issues. This is what I am planning to order:
- Intel Core i5-12400 (12th Gen, 6 cores)
- Asus 4389278 Prime H670-Plus D4 Gaming Motherboard
- Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB (2 x 16GB) DDR4 3200Mhz C16 High Performance Desktop Memory Kit Black
- Samsung 920 Pro 1 TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD
Is the motherboard OK? My last Asus motherboard broke prematurely but 2 before that were splendid. How about RAM?
I intend to use integrated GPU (Intel 930 I think) at least for now.
CPU should come with a fan but is Intel fan good enough or should be replaced with something else (and if yes, what?)
I have Fractal Design R3 case from 2012 and Corsair AX850 power source also abt. equally old. I've been told that they should work...?
I first thought about Ryzen but I've read enough complaints about various compability issues and the Passmark performance difference seems to be quite small at that price point. So Intel feels a bit safer choice (and still maintains Hackintosh option...?)

Sure, good enough, if you don't care about having a quiet cooler.golemus wrote: Sun Jun 19, 2022 11:34 am CPU should come with a fan but is Intel fan good enough or should be replaced with something else (and if yes, what?)
I never use stock CPU coolers. Good stuff = Be Quiet, Noctua, Scythe, Cooler Master, ... (read reviews for more info)

I use msi pro b660m-a ddr4 right now, which was one one the cheaper b660 boards when I bought it. Highly recommend it. Used it with 12600 non-k which is 10% faster and has a little bit better IGPU. Got a good price for it though, if it's significantly more expensive than 12400 it's not worth it.
I think it's better to buy 2TB PCIe 3.0 of cheaper SSD like samsung evo. Speed is more or less wasted for everyday usage cases (even for audio it's way overkill). Capacity is always nice. Make sure it's nvme though, sata is cheaper, but way slower.
Integrated GPU is fine if you don't game or run 3d applications. If you do heavy photo or video editing, discrete GPU can provide some acceleration, but it's only worth it if you do it a lot. For audio production, video playback, documents, internet browsing igpu is fine.golemus wrote: Sun Jun 19, 2022 11:34 am I intend to use integrated GPU (Intel 930 I think) at least for now.
Intel stock cooler is garbage, but you can buy budget tower cooler for like 30-40$. Should be enough for 12400. I use ID-COOLING SE-224-XT which was 30$ and it's fine.golemus wrote: Sun Jun 19, 2022 11:34 am CPU should come with a fan but is Intel fan good enough or should be replaced with something else (and if yes, what?)
Should be fine. Look out for stand-offs so you don't damage motherboard by accident. 12400 consumes like 130 watts under heavy load, you shoudn't worry about psu too much (even if it's degraded after years of use).golemus wrote: Sun Jun 19, 2022 11:34 am I have Fractal Design R3 case from 2012 and Corsair AX850 power source also abt. equally old. I would definitely be going for an Intel Core i5-12500 if I were to rely on the iGPU.
The iGPU of the 12400 is inferior, and the 12500 is only 10€ more expensive.
12400 (UHD 730) --> max. speed 1,3GHz / 192 shading units / 12 texture mapping units / 8 ROP's
12500 (UHD 770) --> max. speed 1,45GHz / 256 shading units / 16 texture mapping units / 8 ROP's

Price difference is 28eur. 12500 is also very low on best sellers list compared to 12400. In what sort of use scenarios would 770 make a difference in relation to 730...? And if 730 forms to be a bottleneck can I not solve it just by buying dedicated graphics card?Dark Fiber wrote: Mon Jun 20, 2022 9:40 am I would definitely be going for an Intel Core i5-12500 if I were to rely on the iGPU.

I am mainly using DAW and plugins in 2 screens, in exceptional circumstances there might be 3rd screen. I don't play any games. Sometimes (but rarely) I do video editing with Sony Vegas or Photoshop editing. And streaming with OBS project. And run map applications like google maps etc.. Does 770 make a difference to 730 in these use cases?
I already ordered the parts and 12400, theoretically I might still be able to cancel and replace but not sure if it is a good idea. A processor model that is sold little is much harder to sell in 2nd hand market if I want to get rid of it some day.

Your post is drenched with post-purchase bias. The price difference here is just 10 €. For only 3 beers you have higher clock speeds and a better iGPU. Those are just facts. Where exactly you would experience the added performance is always hard to say, but pre-purchase, for me, it's a no-brainer.golemus wrote: Mon Jun 20, 2022 11:03 pmPrice difference is 28eur. 12500 is also very low on best sellers list compared to 12400. If you motherboard has 3 display connectors you could, but most of them have 1 or 2 display connectors. The motherboard that I recommended you earlier has 4 though.golemus wrote: Mon Jun 20, 2022 11:03 pm I am mainly using DAW and plugins in 2 screens, in exceptional circumstances there might be 3rd screen.
Don't worry about it, all igpus are absolute trash compared to discrete ones. So if you need graphics performance for any reason, marginally better igpu won't make any difference.

How would he benefit from a slightly better iGPU? It's an audio PC.Dark Fiber wrote: Tue Jun 21, 2022 6:09 amYour post is drenched with post-purchase bias. The price difference here is just 10 €. So, an audio PC doesn't process any graphics? Right.chk071 wrote: Tue Jun 21, 2022 8:42 amHow would he benefit from a slightly better iGPU? From his post:
- 2 screens, there might be 3rd screen.
- video editing
- Photoshop editing
- streaming with OBS project.
And as I said, not only iGPU performance, but also higher CPU clock speeds.
For less than the price of a non-stock cooler.

Well... the effect of a slightly faster GPU will be virtually unnoticable if he doesn't do GPU heavy tasks like games.
And, first and foremost, he already bought his CPU.

In the Netherlands it's 209 € vs 218 €
