Funkybot's Evil Twin wrote: Tue Jun 21, 2022 2:04 pm Found this thread on the Arturia forums where, 3rd post in, someone says they've got an early Jupiter-8 and it does Legato in Solo mode - just wasn't documented in the manual:

Interesting.. thanks

oh Patrick :)

If J-8 doesn't behave properly, which seems to be the case, someone should really email him and ask him to verify against his hardware. That's the kind of undocumented feature where he may not even noticed if he's not playing in Solo mode regularly and comparing.

I did already. (Just after I said Oh Patrick).

Excellent. Just wanted to be totally sure - if not, I would've been happy to. Thanks for reporting. Keep us posted!

Thanks zvenx.

Although legato makes sense in solo mode, don't know how it would work on Unison mode, because unison on Jupiter-8 is polyphonic. But hey, whatever it is, Patrick will figure out.

About Relax, maybe we are hearing a 2 semitone pitch bend down instead of legato?

Well, I will share the patch here.

That same Arturia thread references that the Unison mode on the Jupiter hardware always retriggers.

waltercruz wrote: Tue Jun 21, 2022 1:59 pm I need to confess that I didn't knew this song until yesterday! :clown:

But it's Jupiter-8 everywhere. According Andy Richards, even some sounds that people thought initially that were Fairlight, were in fact Jupiter-8

http://www.muzines.co.uk/articles/progr ... tocol/1104

"IF YOU WANT proof of the power and versatility of the Jupiter 8, then dig out your old copy of 'Relax' and listen to the sounds that many assumed to have come from a Fairlight."
With the TAL-J-8 you can really recreate some of these sounds quite well. Also the sound doublings or wide stereo sounds work really well with the TAL-J-8.

I've also tried my hand at recreating such songs on several occasions. But then I realize again that I'm just no Andy Richards...

But it's great to be able to recreate such sounds and ideas today with TAL-J-8 and to learn from such virtuoso ideas.

Some sounds from my free TAL-J-8 sound set have their roots in such sound experiments.

He's also done some great podcast interviews you should dig out, as if you're into this stuff like I am, they're fascinating...

Anyone got it? I demoed the Tal J-8 when it came out and I highly doubt it is capable of this raw Jupiter-sound.

Not bad, actually. Yes, legato and a bit reverb on top to put it right in the mix and it´s rather close.

Thanks for the patch, maybe I´ll contemplate getting the J-8 after all.

You should consider making (and selling) a collection of patches like this. You´ll probably make some money, since there are no competition for good patch collections for the J-8 so far that I´m aware of. And more people, like myself, will get a more fair impression and realise the potential of what the VST-instrument is capable of, before one considers investing the time needed to master it enough, like you apparently have.

there is no good collection for j-8?

Himalaya, Luftrum, App Sounds, etc etc etc...

Maybe I will do a small patch bank someday, but I'm better in copying patches than creating! Already noticed that I can really recreate the other bass from Relax too (the one that plays E C# D). Just need to collect more Jupiter-8 inspiration!
