I'm sure they will account for this piecemeal roll-out of graphics updates in their plugin-by-plugin WUP pricing

The mix knob is nice I guess, but about new the trim knob... all those plugins already had a knob for the output level... now they have 2 :borg:
I think the difference is that they are pre/post mix knob. There are some well-designed plugin compressors out there which also provide both of these stages, e.g. Kotelnikov, Molot, TrackComp2. But Fircomp 2, MJUC and The Glue manage fine without. Personally I never use the output trim; I find that loudness-matched makeup gain also gives a useful wet/dry range.

Actually my favourite waves compressor for parallel smash is Kramer PIE, but they didn't get around to that one this time around. Perhaps because there's no empty space on the graphics to whack in a generic-looking knob? (I'd rather they put this stuff in a discreet header/footer bar really.)

Post

for once i got in on an update while my waves plug ins are in active WUP.

Post

Updated a lot of my plugins under active WUP to V14, however, disappointed that some important ones that got new features/fixes missed the free update due to their recently expired WUP.

Until now I used to keep upgrading my bundles for getting WUP covered, but now I am on Horizon and there's only Mercury above it, which is still very expensive. WUP of individual plugins or other bundles is turning out to be expensive even at 25% off, so that sucks!

The ideal predator for GAS victims. I also rather upgrade than WUP. But slowly, I’ll wait for some more versions to upgrade from Gold to Platinum… I still have a long way to go… I would get 23 plugins for the price of $6 each, and the rest is wupped as well…

You could say so, but I always had great bargains when upgrading my bundles, so it's not that I have spent a lot of money or spent without thinking purely out of GAS. At some point it was going to happen, so while it is disappointing, I can stop thinking about something that's not possible now and stop looking around for more Waves deals.

But yes, indeed upgrade the bundle at each step (Gold to Gold+RenMaxx to Platinum to Diamond/Horizon, etc.) instead of doing it in one go, which is what I also had been doing.

F6 is the only one of my Waves no longer under WUP that they made any sort of compelling case for me to consider buying WUP to update to V14.

For those of you considering WUP of single plugins, if you get the code and take it over to everyplugin, that'll net you a bit more savings. The $99 retail ones, which are normally $8.91 for WUP ($6.68 at 25% off) will be $6.11 this way, but you have to bundle more than one or pay a base minimum.

They've been running this 25% off WUP sale for so long now that they should just reduce the price permanently. My guess is it had been extended to try and hook some buyers with the V14 update.

Since Version 9 it is not possible to install Waves in any practical way (without WUP-ing every year to have access to updated versions) on Windows 10 without getting crazy and loosing 5GB of storage. For a few plugins. Their whole plugin infrastructure architecture is insane. I have around 15 Waves licenses but the hassle has been to much for me. I have given up on installing it. This is no bashing but a harsh real world experience. :dog:

Am in the same boat.

Prediction - in the next 12 months we’ll start seeing some serious Mercury deals. It used to be the crème de la crème and contained everything they did - including new releases. But it has progressively been devalued as more and more plugins aren’t in it (and of course the competition is far more fierce).

TBH there’s little in it I’d want over and above Horizon. I bet a lot are in the same boat, so they will need to be lured…

Just a word of warning for Cubase users; the spec requirements on the Waves website says 14 is only compatible with Cubase 12. I’m happy to stick with V13 and Cubase 11. 🤷‍♂️
I wonder what happens if I press this button...

I don't understand why anyone would have to upgrade. Do the plugins stop working on newer os's?
What happens if you don't upgrade?

Im curious because there are four plugins im looking to buy.

If waves is so bad what is a better alternative at such a cheap price?

Been doing that with Reaper's fx mix knob on Waves 9 for 3 years.

Well.....here is my situation. I am on Waves 10. 25 plugins.. all expired Wup. I am on win 7. I have to upgrade my OS to install latest WC to even demo anything new.....as far as i know. Not interested. I like waves stuff and I understand they have to make money to keep up with ever changing requirements but I am not a Pro studio and do not have the budget to play.

1. You don't have to.
2. No.
3. Nothing.

All the flaming and bashing are from people on here who don't agree with Waves business model. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, but rather than scroll past, they insist on dropping in and posting negative untrue comments.

Well that is good news because I really like Omni Chanel, the SSl channel strip, vitamin and the Studer tape emulation.
