I just got my Mac Studio (which came pre-installed with Monterey, 12.4).. Avenger's performance is horrible!! Constantly maxing my CPU. Is this a known issue with this CPU/OS combination?

i run an m1 pro on 12.4, Cubase 12, no issues like this.
what's your DAW, buffer settings?

I'm running it under Reason. I'm suspecting it's because Reason is running under Rosetta and it's trying to load a native plugin. But good to hear that you're not experiencing that. Promising. (Assuming Cubase is native now)

Buffer is at 512. Nothing extravagant. I’m gonna have to chalk this up to my DAW’s non-native reality sadly.

i'm running Cubase 12 in Rosetta mode. i don't think i've even tried Avenger in native mode.
side note, i've found that sometimes on the M1 chip that i get a better performance around 256 samples - if i increase the buffer to 512 or larger the CPU hit seems to go up. it's a bit weird.

I had a breakthrough.. there was an audio setting in Reason that was causing the havoc!! Turning it off, calmed things down.
BTW, if you are running version 1.8.x of Avenger, it's already native M1.

On my old 2013 mac pro and logic, it would max out my cpu with a single key at a 256 buffer. A single damn key (on some presets).
On my silicon mac, at a 128 buffer running native, I can go pretty crazy without any issues at all.

you're not going to mention what that setting was?johnghadimi wrote: Fri Jun 24, 2022 12:48 am I had a breakthrough.. there was an audio setting in Reason that was causing the havoc!! Turning it off, calmed things down.BTW, if you are running version 1.8.x of Avenger, it's already native M1.

Turning off "Use multi-core audio rendering" helped. Can't say the performance is perfect but it definitely stopped most of the CPU spikes.

I use it under Bitwig 4.3 and Avenger literally flies, 24 or more instances and the CPU doesn't even move. Reason with Rosetta is garbage. Avenger runs stupendously well on an 8-core CPU [ 64-bit ] with no less than 32GB of RAM. The best synthesizer in recent history, as far as VST plugins go.

Happy to say I moved to Bitwig two months ago and haven't been happier!! Adios Reason.. VPS runs like butter in Bitwig.

it just doesn't work here under 10.7.7 and Monterey but on a i7 intel 3.2Gz 6 core maxed out Mac mini with more than simple sinus wave based patched. for example practically all of the doorstep expansion ARP just DOESN'T work. saying that playing a hell bunch of orchestral plugs of Spitfire Without any problems... so it's a failure of actual and efficient programming.
