My Ryzen 2500u laptop really shows its age when I create dense pads in Novum. Even with my samples set to the maximum in Presonus Studio 24c - 2048/44.1 - I not only get snaps, crackles and pops, but outright audio dropouts. When I switch over to ASIO4All, I'm able to play chords in the pads at 2048/44.1, but I still have to be careful because chords over four or five notes results in screeching dropouts.
If you can't dazzle 'em with brilliance, baffle 'em with bullshit.

Playing with a granulated glass texture in Novum, the original sample is audible at the beginning of the video.

A few tips to reduce CPU on older hardware for dense pads:Boy Wonder wrote: Fri Jun 24, 2022 4:49 am My Ryzen 2500u laptop really shows its age when I create dense pads in Novum. * mono the layers and use PAN JIT instead to make it wide in the stereo field
* reduce DENSITY while increasing the grain SIZE
* add two delays with incommensurable delay times, this will allow you to reduce density further
* reduce the release time / adjust the release curve to remove tons of barely audible grains
* decrease LUSH if you use CLOUDS, reduce THICK if you use CHORUS
* switch off SYNTIFY in case you anyways set it to 0
In case you believe the CPU consumption is unreasonable high on your machine please drop me a mail to peter at dawesomemusic dot com

FR: grain pitch randomization per emitted grain, also quantizable to scales, +/- 3 octaves in range.

Had the demo going for 20 minutes before I went back to buy - this is the first granular plugin aside from the Ableton Suite M4L granulator that I could immediately get musical results from (vs unusable noise or everything sounding like the same pad).
I've still got some things to learn via working backward from presets - there are some with multiple keytrack modulation spots listed but I can't tell where they're going and with some presets layers seem to come in and out (on the spectral imager) at different times (related to keytracking?).
On a 2020 i7 iMac it's fairly CPU gentle - seems like Ableton was hitting ~10% with a lot of grains. Tomorrow it'll go on the M1 Max MBP.

Thanks for the tips, @PetVor. I'll make sure I utilize them.

Ok *sigh*, just purchased on JRR. I really don't need any more plugins but I really like the sounds I got from the demo and also the developer contributing here. Cheers to GAS

And something like this for quantization:

Loving Novum!
Just want to add a very small feature request and see what others think.
While it's cool that there is ctrl click to solo a layer, I think a dedicated solo button would be really useful (in addition to the mute or on/off button already there). The reason for this is that the ctrl click turns off other layers, and then turns them all back on, but sometimes you might want to make a sound consisting of only a few of the layers, but you still want to solo each one, and then when you un-solo, only those active (or non-muted) layers become audible again. It's similar to how DAW mixer tracks work and is very useful. It would also have the side benefit of not requiring a modifier for touch screens which is nice.
I'd suggest putting the solo button to the right of the colored dot. So you have activate on the left and solo on the right. And solo wouldn't affect the state of the on/off button.
Cheers!

I'd like to suggest to implement delay for each slot so we could make each slot come in at different times if desired . i know it doesn't sound like major feature but little things matter . preferably delay as free and synch mode as well

Trialed, pretty good. Just some suggestion - optionally ability multioutputs, ie separate for each layer (with bypassing internal FX respectively).
Although built in reverbs very good (frankly i'm think they form an essential part of the musicality in library), but, would be interesting to experiment with external effects per layer, especially considering ability of modulation system own for each layer (when, can say, all of them becomes like separate instruments).
