Why do people here hate on cherry audio?

I downloaded their newest wave table synth and think it sounds fine?
Is there something wrong with the plug-ins?

Their plugins are very reasonably priced, and they release new ones fairly often. For some people that means “therefore they must not be very good”.
Personally I like their stuff and have bought most of it. I don’t consider their emulations best of breed, but even the ones that aren’t very accurate are still fun and sound good. Great value for the money. They seem like good people too.

I already own Arturia V Collection so I don't see the point.
Mostly, do we need another brand developing not very accurate "emulations" of old hardware?
No hate, just oversaturation, and honestly I think they might be the least accurate sounding emulations I've heard.
They could be great people, it's a good price point, but I just don't get it? There's aliasing and unnatural to the synth distortion all over their Memorymoog, it's just disappointing that's all.

Arturia has a completely modular software? Cherry Audio only competition is Softube in that space at the moment.

Not me. However, most of them tend to be CPU-heavy. Also, DreamSynth has plenty of waveforms and samples that are not properly looped.

I don't think that's true at all. I own 3 or 4 of their synths and I don't think they sound very good. The prices make them very tempting, which is how I got sucked in, but I think FBM's donationware synths sound better, as do freebies like Invader and GR-8. They aren't terrible but you can do better for similar or less money. If you want a comparison, compare DCO-106 with Softube's Model 84.

Regular prices:
Softube Model 84 $160 / $80 on sale (now)
Voltage DCO-106 $40 / $25 on sale (now)
(some might say, you get what you pay for)
They do sound different but are in the same ball park. to me. I have both because I like to have options. I'd use the 84 when I want it blend in more and/or provide more heft, and the DCO-106 when I want it to cut through. They both come across as 106's sounding to me.

I fully agree. I have more than enough synth vsts as it is, why spend more money on inaccurate emulations? I'd rather invest in top quality synths and stick to that investment (Diva is still top notch, just like Arturia's recent synths).machinesworking wrote: ↑Tue Jun 28, 2022 3:45 am I already own Arturia V Collection so I don't see the point.

If the emulations aren't accurate, I might as well use awesome non-emulations like Massive X, Pigments, Vital, Super 8.
For modular, there's VCV Rack and Reaktor.

I haven't messed around with Cherry's modular software, but I'm already shocked you think there's only Softube as competition there. VCV Rack and Reaktor come to mind right away.

Because they don't actually emulate things.
Because they are using insanely stupid influencers.
Because their fanboys are repeating nonsense like "omg, CA moog clone is only $3.99 and it doesn't matter it sounds nothing like moog" or "Cherry Audio only competition is Softube in modular software market" and that's part of their marketing.

Hard to argue.
They are chalk and cheese to me. I only bought DCO-106 because my bandmate had it and he was using it in a few things but, since we both got Model 84, neither of us have even considered using DCO-106. I didn't bother installing any of the Cherry synths on my latest laptop. They do sound different but are in the same ball park. to me. I have both because I like to have options. Because they are not as accurate emulations as certain specific $75-200 plugins (of which I own most of, for reference).
They are fun, cheap synths that still sound good and have a large number of high quality presets. This is not enough for people that don't actually create music. People who don't actually create music fetishize hyper-specific technical details when synthesizers at their core are really just about creating interesting sounding bleeps and bloops. Cherry synths are plenty capable of making very cool sounds regardless of whether or not another emulation of a particular synth thats in a different segment of the market price-wise is 7.34% more accurate.
The price I've paid for my cherry synths (getting synth stack bundle discount), has been worth it for the presets alone.
Weird also how when I try to recreate presets from cherry synths on "more accurate" emulations of the same synth, a lot of times the cherry preset just sounds better. You'd assume from the way certain individuals talk, that this could never be the case, and the only musical utility an emulative synth has is measured relative to how close the emulation is. A strange phenomenon, indeed.

I mostly do not like so much about them:
- Custom installer app, unclear which data is submitted then
- Online connection required
- GUIs / controls ratio is poor, even on big sizes the controls are tiny
- Mediocre sound quality
- Freeware is extremely crippled a.k.a. useless
- Even their biggest synth lacks of new ideas and just is minor standard in features. Similar to a synth I would have expected in 2002.
So for me, there is no reason why I should use their plugins.
