There are bargains to be had for sure if you don't already have the stuff you want after almost perpetual sales for the last few years.
I also don't think they will go subscription only, they are just trying to find new ways of making money with the same products they have already developed and permanent licence updates is still a big money spinner.
The general point is there is a disproportionate amount of effort in to sales, marketing and new initiatives for branding, sales and marketing compared to developing new products and updating/fixing old products.
I am simply fatigued with all of the re-spun marketing led initiatives to the point that it is having the negative effect on my opinion of the company/companies.

My biggest problem with this Soundwide enterprise is that I now receive all sooper dooper offers of all three entities threefold from all three of them.

marketing dominates when a product domain is mature and saturated. As others point out there is actually a lot of opportunity for innovation but that will come from smaller devs. I dont need another sampled piano or drum kit, nor compressor and so on. I dont need AI for any of this stuff because their training sets are from music I dont like. And so on for many many people.

The innovation from the large companies will be in how well their tools/resources/services work together as an ecosystem, and how well this is experienced by the user.fairlyclose wrote: Tue Jul 05, 2022 8:54 am marketing dominates when a product domain is mature and saturated. NI is no longer exciting, maschine and reaktor blocks was the last good thing they did, even massive x while sounding good doesn't seem much forward thinking to me.

But the truth is that you don't need to fill up your mind and your hard drives with ALL of that crap to make musicnightjar wrote: Tue Jul 05, 2022 11:24 amHmmm...

Yep, it's about time for me to sell off about half of my plug in collection. I use randomly near everything, but it's total mental waste at this point. I completed the goals, I have good representations of most hardware, the digital realm granular etc. capabilities are all there. I have whole collections of gear I don't use.digitalboytn wrote: Tue Jul 05, 2022 9:09 pm But the truth is that you don't need to fill up your mind and your hard drives with ALL of that crap to make music![]()
I've owned Komplete since v2 and really used Reaktor, Kontakt, and Abysnth. At this point until Reaktor goes Apple Silicon native it's Kontakt. I've started realizing most collections rope me into filling my plug in folder with instruments and FX I never use. Looking back it's been Zebra, Kontakt, and Abysnth (replaced now), I tend to focus on a few instruments and use the rest sparingly.
I tend to want to write (or tweak my own version from existing), patches and learning 350 plug ins to that level is counterproductive.

I’ve been struggling with what to do with plug-in folder bloat for a while. I’ve been toying with limiting myself to one or maybe two developer bundles as a way to make update management easier.machinesworking wrote: Tue Jul 05, 2022 10:44 pmYep, it's about time for me to sell off about half of my plug in collection. But I don’t think Komplete will be one of them. The selection of synths and FX is by no means bad but I like some others am not convinced of NI’s long term commitment to maintenance and development.
Maybe Arturia V and Fx collections or Rob Papen eXplorer bundle would be the way to go where, rightly or wrongly, I have more confidence in their longevity.
I would be interested in other peoples suggestions.

Conversely.. I think that with all the new combined resources from the Soundwide deal, things are looking better for Komplete than it has for years. Previous management had made some poor decisions and let technical debt get WAY too high.SHall1000 wrote: Tue Jul 05, 2022 11:11 pmBut I don’t think Komplete will be one of them. My wishes are:
Battery 5
Updates to Drumlab & Polyplex
An R&B focused Session Guitar
Updates to the Solid Mix Series, Vintage Compressors & Premium Tube Series
3rd party NKS effects working outside of an instrument. Being able to bus to them, for example.

What is a 3rd party NKS effect? Fx inside an instrument isn’t 3rd party be definition. And Fx working outside as separate plugin can be used that way anyway…???BezO wrote: Wed Jul 06, 2022 12:55 am 3rd party NKS effects working outside of an instrument. Being able to bus to them, for example.

I want to use my Komplete Kontrol to control NKS effects without having to load an instrument. That can't be done as far as I know.Tj Shredder wrote: Wed Jul 06, 2022 5:59 amWhat is a 3rd party NKS effect? Fx inside an instrument isn’t 3rd party be definition. V and FX Collection are more complimentary to Komplete than they are alternatives to it...SHall1000 wrote: Tue Jul 05, 2022 11:11 pm Maybe Arturia V and Fx collections or Rob Papen eXplorer bundle would be the way to go where, rightly or wrongly, I have more confidence in their longevity.

"Notifications for Nothing" are annoying. Blocking me in return is a good way to avoid this.
