Hello all,

I don't have any Orange Tree Samples libraries yet, but I've always liked the sound of their guitars and I'm seriously considering taking part in the current group buy campaign. Ho ewer, there are a couple of things I'd like to know before I eventually do so. I've sent a couple of E-mails to the official support address, but haven't received any response and so I thought that I'd try my luck here. This site has a lot of users after all.
  1. What parameters are mapped to the NKS knobs when it comes to the acoustic guitar libraries?
I ask because I'm a blind person and in most cases we blind people only have access to those parameters that Kontakt library developers choose to pre-expose to the DAW/host software. It doesn't necessarily have to be that way (some instruments have more parameters exposed than others), but typically it's just those parameters that have been assigned to the 8 rotary encoders on Native Instruments controller keyboards.
  2. Because interacting with the Kontakt graphical user interface is practically out of the question, how complex strumming patterns can one create with plain MIDI (without utilizing the built-in strum pattern creator)?
As far as I understand, it's possible to perform basic strums just by using the 2 strum keys located below the playable range. So am I correct that it's possible to make these guitars strum just by
programming MIDI in a DAW - without the need to touch the strumming pattern keys or the graphical user interface? If so, are there any limitations when it comes to the types of strumming patterns one can program just by using sequenced MIDI data?
Can you for example insert palm mutes into your strums or influence the strumming speed with keyswitches or in some other way?
Many thanks!

Sorry for the delay, there's been a huge influx of emails due to the group buy. I just sent you an email with responses to your questions. :)

Thanks Greg, I have just read your answers and I will probably send you at least one more follow up question. 🙂

Greg, I have sent you another batch of E-mails over the last couple of days, but it's enough if you answer my last message, as that's basically a summary of all the messages I sent you before that.
Hope it's OK that I'm sending you a reminder like this... 🙂

I'll post my new questions over here as well in case my mails got buried too much in the sea of correspondence you are receiving these days. 😉
  1. How does one select whether a given articulation is assigned to a CC, velocity or keyswitch? Should that be customizable through the exposed parameters or is it a matter of choosing the right Kontakt snapshot?
  2. Can you use the 2 strum keys to create a basic strumming pattern and combine these keys with for example keyswitches so that different strums are played with different articulations (for example a combination of sustains and mutes)?
    - If I get it correctly, you have basically already told me that this is possible, but I just want to be sure...
  3. How was that very first strum you hear after the fifth minute in this video created?

    - Am I right that that first strum was played in completely manually without involving the strum keys?
  4. Is it correct that the higher the velocity of the strum keys is, the more strings of the chord get sounded (but the strum speed does not change)?
  5. Is it possible to influence the strum speed via a keyswitch or MIDI CC? - If I understand it correctly, the answer is no. Can you think of a relatively easy workaround?
  6. Is it possible to hold down a chpord, use the 2 strum keys and still have different velocities for the different strums?
    - Correct me if I'm wrong, but the way one is supposed to use the 2 strum keys is, that one keeps holding down a chord while performing the strums themselves with the 2 dedicated keys. But than I assume that this will result in all the strums having the exact same velocity. For that reason I believe that the short answer is no, but is it somehow possible to change the dynamics of each strum (for example via MIDI CC)?
  7. Does one have access to all the factory strum patterns via the exposed parameters?
    - I know that there are keyswitches dedicated to strum patterns, but your guitars come with more patterns than the keyswitches can accommodate at one go. Do the exposed parameters make it possible to change what pattern a given key plays?

I would be glad, if there would be an answer too, either in this topic here or per DM, because I bought this library just yesterday and thought I bought a quite nice accessible Guitar instrument, but now the important things are either hidden in CCs or only accessible through the Kontakt interface.
