I love the cough!! Very Killing Joke. I can only hear it in one ear on the stupid headphones at work but it sounds pretty good to me. Not the first SM song I'd want to cover but still...
I wonder if it pisses them off that their biggest hit was written by someone else? I think it would annoy the shit out of me, at least until I got my next royalty cheque. OTOH, if I was Keith Forsey, I'd love Simple Minds to death.

Thanks. I'm not sure if it pisses them off, but from articles I've read, it doesn't seem like they regret recording it. Forsey said writing it was his greatest achievement: https://americansongwriter.com/dont-you ... -the-song/

I just had a proper listen on my studio monitors and if you want some constructive criticism, the chorus lacks the big lift of the original. I think maybe some lower notes in the brass part might help, maybe duplicating what's there an octave and/or two lower.
I'm not surprised at Keith Forsey's attitude, that one song probably means he hasn't had to work since he got his first cheque. I can't imagine how much money it has made him but it would be many millions by now. I know a couple of bands who had relatively minor hits, most notably Modern English (I Melt With You), that paid mortgages for all the band members and keep providing them with royalties to this day.

Yeah, the chorus is weak compared to the original. I couldn't really figure out the element(s) that lifted it. You might be right about the brass. Could be I didn't sufficiently match the vocal tone.

Nice cover (although i don't know the original very well). Two things which i thought could be different:
first, the voice (your voice?) could be a bit more upfront and the snare a bit less dominant. Maybe it is how the original sounds, but for my personal taste this could be different. Overall very nice!

it is better to have a track with some mistakes than a track without any soul

Not something I usually listen to, but of course I recognize the song and it passes the vibe check, very enjoyable. As others mentioned, only (constructive) criticism can be directed towards certain production details, which is expected considering it's a massive commercial hit, and those usually utilize every production trick in the book.

Hi Genetic Junk,
Very nice cover.
I love your vocals, and it could actually come up in the mix.
Very nice instrumentation.
Love this.

Thanks!
The snare actually is pretty dominant on the original. But you are right about the voice. I probably could nudge it up a bit to good effect. Thanks for your feedback.tomtom1 wrote: Thu Jul 07, 2022 10:46 am Nice cover (although i don't know the original very well). Two things which i thought could be different:

Yep. I'm not sure I'll ever match this caliber of production quality. But I'm doing covers in part to learn production tricks/processes that I may not discover just recording my own ideas. Thanks for listening and for you comments.Opaque wrote: Thu Jul 07, 2022 12:01 pm Not something I usually listen to, but of course I recognize the song and it passes the vibe check, very enjoyable.
