Tracking Apple Silicon Native Hosts, Plugins, Effects

Beyond inconvenient. Thanks for the insights cadiz. The individual installers do in fact supply M1 Native versions and these are the same as the precise versions listed in the database with the absurd letter at the end of the version. So that puts an end to that.
Teilo the problem is that using a letter at the end to differentiate between 1.0.3x and 1.0.3z when you have three places to iterate is absurd. They both show up to the observer as 1.0.3. If you don't see the problem, perhaps it's because you didn't have to install the plugins 5 times!
Still going to provide Team Papen a piece of my mind. What's with their absurd versioning? Had to install 5 times to get native plugins. Twice to get the Rosetta version, because there is a separate NKS installer that you have to run after. Twice to get the Silicon version, again with the separate NKS installer, and then to discover that VST3s won't run standalone (some sort of wrapper I guess) so had to reinstall VST. What a hassle. If I never reinstall Rob Papen plugins it will be too soon.

Well, the letter is just not a big deal. Not everyone does precise semantic versioning. But it is true that the user downloads do not note anything beyond the minor version, and the "Latest updated products" list on the main user account screen does not list everything that has been updated. So fair enough.kidslow wrote: Wed Jul 06, 2022 7:00 pm Teilo the problem is that using a letter at the end to differentiate between 1.0.3x and 1.0.3z when you have three places to iterate is absurd. The reason why I am going on about the letter is because there are three places to iterate a version, why with the letter? There is a convention: major.minor.point. Papen even seems to adhere to it, but then veers off into this lettering system. Probably because the developer has that way of doing things and nobody corrected the bad habit.
We're not even talking convention of audio software. It is a convention of software. You make a major platform change, reflect it in your version. Set a company standard on when and how to iterate, and follow it. Provide release notes. Label the version of a download so it's clear as day. Go through the process of installing your own software (and upgrading it) to identify the pain points. This is the bare minimum we should all expect from a developer. So few get over that bar.
In Papen's case, it's bad version control and user-unfriendly. It also speaks to suspect software development practices. Why can't I use one installer if I want NKS or not. Why two? Why is the package not current? The installers are a mess ... but to be fair there are improvements I saw between the two versions. Now you can customize what to install. No AAX thank you.
It's all part of the customer experience. I want Rob Papen to succeed. I want to use all the great audio things he comes up with that I can, but I want the experience to be more friendly.
Then maybe I would buy more of his great audio things.

I think you're protesting too much. Please take your pet peeve somewhere else. And for the record: I also develop software and run development teams, and know semantic versioning very well.kidslow wrote: Wed Jul 06, 2022 8:07 pm The reason why I am going on about the letter is because there are three places to iterate a version, why with the letter? I don't think Subboombass 1.1.3e is actually native - I have that version installed and it runs under Rosetta. Redownloaded & reinstalled it just now to make sure it wasn't silently updated, and it's still running under Rosetta.

The version in the plugin info screen doesn't show Arm, but it is.mustgroove wrote: Thu Jul 07, 2022 2:17 am I don't think Subboombass 1.1.3e is actually native - I have that version installed and it runs under Rosetta. Also shows native in Bitwig. There seems to be something wrong with it, though. The VST loads in Bitwig and Blue Cat Patchwork. It does not show up in Ableton. The AU file is also native, but it won't show up at all in Ableton or Logic, and won't load in Patchwork.

Looks like it's only a problem with the AU. Live just hadn't scanned the VST yet. It showed up and works.mustgroove wrote: Thu Jul 07, 2022 7:29 am Super weird... the AU loads under Rosetta in both Ableton and Reaper on my system. Wonder what the deal is

FYI ThinkerSnacks implemented a suggestion I had into the new update for Pluginfo (https://www.thinkersnacks.com/as-pluginfo.html). You can now use exclusionary searches.
I use
I use
as a search to quickly show only the plugins I have that haven't updated to ARM native yet.!aax !apple

I was overwrought the other day, perhaps from having installed 5 times to get a stable native version. But maybe if customers asked more of developers they would improve. Clearly improvement doesn't happen on its own. Rob Papen support has always been very helpful and they got right back to me so I've taken the rest of my concerns up with them.
