I'm looking for a plugin that makes a male singing voice sound like a female one - I've used Ircam Trax so far and it works decently most of the time. It's getting fairly old and I've wondered if there's some better/newer alternatives for this?
i'm aware of formant/pitch shifter plugins like soundtoys alterboy, zplane elastique pitch, pitch monster, kilohearts - these are nice but they don't really sound as realistic as the ircam one
Effect for manipulating perceived gender of vocals - Ircam Trax still best?

Nothing else does quite what Trax does (the formant stuff is no-where else apart from Ircam products), but there is some great formant shifting stuff in Melodyne, and Antares does a decent job if you've got Autotune or Throat. Soundtoys Little Alter Boy - that gets used a lot for pitch and formant stuff at the moment.
If you're on Logic, the Flex Pitch mode gives you some formant manipulation tools. VariAudio in Cubase possibly also has this. Offline stuff will sound better than real-time stuff, most of the time. (controversial statement).
Some material, though, no matter which tools you try, for whatever reason (in terms of how the vocalist is delivering.. the range the vocalist is in, if they're straining to reach notes, the dynamics of the performance..) you might not be able to get it where you think you can.
I'm sure some folks will suggest some more tools though

Nah that's a pretty good post @CinningBao.
Source is super important and on breathy/subtle sources most realtime formant shifters fall apart, the most consistent i find Melodyne and Logic Flex Pitch, they sound different tho.
AVOX Throat is nice, so is Melda MTransformer, but a lot sound glitchy.
I hope Ircam TRAX gets updated to M1
