Hey...!
Sorry for the overlapping inquiry...but I thought I should have a post in this forum (since I'm leaning towards a Soft-Sampler.)
So...1) If I went towards NI, what is the basic difference between Kontakt & Kompakt?
Here's my basics:
Right now, I do not need extensive envelope & parameter shaping...I just need a reliable software sampler that will run efficiently in my DAW (SONAR XL 2.2); [& of course be triggered by it's MIDI tracks]; & has realistic piano & acoustic guitar sounds.
Does Kompakt also come with libraries? If so, how are the pianos (I need grands, uprights & some electrics) & acoustic guitars (I need 6 & 12 strings, strumming & otherwise)?
Can both (Kontakt & Kompakt) play other formats?
2) Without starting a soft-sampler war...how are SampleTank, VSampler; & others? Seems like NI has all the damn awards!
Thanks very much,
mark4man
BTW - Forget GS3. It crashed my box real bad. Found out later I needed to disable hyperthreading in the BIOS for it to run; & then found out from my PC mfg. that my BIOS is not that advanced (currently running a 2.53GHz; & would need the BIOS for a 3GHz.) Needless to say...it's going back...or a trade to Kontakt...or something. Thanks.

Alfalfa,
Thanks...
My intended use is realistic piano & acoustic guitar, as triggered by DAW MIDI tracks (& recorded back into adjacent audio tracks), w/o extensive envelope & parameter shaping (for right now.)
So...does Kompakt have a better library?
This all may be a mute point...as Guitar Center gave me a real nice price on Kontakt this afternoon. All I have to do is go pick it up. Wouldn't I get more with the larger app? (although, I read somewhere whereby Kontakt does not have a virtual piano.)
Thanks,
mark4man

freeztar,
Checked out PlugSound; & liked 'em so much, I almost went with MachFive just to be able to play/tweak the UVI format.
Then today, in searching around the web for sample libraries, I ran across their (USB's) SoundScan series. Went back to the USB site; & there they were. Same instruments (basically), only in .wav. Now, I can go with VSampler, have a powerful & aliasing free sampler; & spend my dough on libraries.
Thanks,
mark4man

Ummm the 2.53ghz processor wasn't hyperthreaded. None of the 533mhz FSB processors had HT. It was only the 800mhz FSB that did. So, with that in mind, of course you can't disable HT because your processor doesn't have it! (Same proc I have BTW)mark4man wrote:BTW - Forget GS3. It crashed my box real bad.
