Allen Strange "Electronic Music: Systems, Techniques & Controls" book reprint

Haven't seen an announcement about it here so I thought I would drop one.
The legendary book Electronic Music: System, Techniques and Controls by Allen Strange, which has been out of print and ridiculously expensive for decades, is being reprinted with permission of the rightsholders.
Photos have been retaken, illustrations redone etc. for improved image quality and clarity.
There's a Kickstarter that is 225% funded on day 6. You can get a PDF, spiral-bound softcover or hardcover (or a combination) for pretty reasonable prices.

(I'm not associated with the project but I am backing it at the hardcover level, because I have heard great things about this book from some of my synth heroes.)

I still have a beaten up copy that was used in an Electronic Music community college course I took over 30 years ago.
I seem to recall that Tim Conrardy, once a great KVR regular who sadly passed away over a decade ago, started an RIP thread for Strange in which he recounted having studied with him at San Jose State University and lamenting that he somehow no longer had the wonderful textbook.
Thanks for the heads-up.

tim was one of a few people who "taught" me how to patch synths myself, him and scot solida in particular were great inspirations and help for getting what i was hearing in my head

Additions for postage a bit prohibitive for me (it doubles the cost!), so probably going for the PDF version on the assumption this'll get published/distributed 'normally' later on...
An idiot on Set Theory:

There's a bit of grumbling/negotiation going on at the moment about password protection on the PDF.
The problem, of course, is not the password itself but the fact that this could make the file incompatible with many readers.
And pirates can just share the password as well... Watermarking seems a better option.

this was brought up during live chat in the make noise video, someone asked if it would be published and sold normally?whyterabbyt wrote: Thu Jul 14, 2022 9:07 am Additions for postage a bit prohibitive for me (it doubles the cost!), so probably going for the PDF version on the assumption this'll get published/distributed 'normally' later on...
walker was under the impression something meant it couldn't be done, but, jason nolan, said that there are discussions happening about making it possible and that there are stores looking to sell it.
not very helpful really, i know, which is why i erred on the side of caution, and ordered the hard and soft back and pdf, figuring it probably won't
i guess you're a glass half full type

yeah, i would have normally assumed, the kickstarter was to get the funds in to start the business ...whyterabbyt wrote: Thu Jul 14, 2022 11:41 am well, its what happened with the daphne oram book, so i thought it seemed the normal thing TBH...
wasnt until it was brought up i even considered it might be a one off even with the success of the kickstarter.

a million dollars? that's what a loaf of bread is gonna be soon.
actually, though, postage seems constant for either or both books, so if they let you buy additional copies and that stays the same, gimme a shout; i'd be happy to cover part of the shipping plus whatever it costs to send to scottishlandia.
