The Orange Tree demos are really impressive, although nothing really like the guitar sounds we're looking for. $179 is way more than I am willing to pay for anything, though.
Have any of you guitarists seen/used Sugar Byte's Guitarist? I really like the way it sounds but trying to get it to play what I need does my head in a bit. I might have put more effort in if I hadn't discovered Ujam shortly after buying it.
EDIT: I just watched the walkthrough video for Dracus and it's a lot more like what we're after. I'm still not paying $180, though, so I'll have to wait for a sale. It's also a lot of content I'd need to find disc space for so it can wait.

Re Orange Tree: for some of us, Kontakt is anathema.
As for why a guitarist would want to use one of these things? Not all guitarists can actually play what they can hear in their minds.
We are all different, our requirements are different. What's good for the goose is not always good for the gander.

Until MODO guitars come along, we have limited choices. And even if it does come along (which I am still unsure of ever happening for whatever reason - probably because our economy is about to turn to complete shit - yeah that's a discussion for another time) there is no guarantee that it will produce the exact sound you have in your head. I have literally hundreds of guitar sounds ranging from soft punk to hard metal and I doubt anything other than a real guitar will offer that to me.
I am an ex construction worker with nerve damage in my lower neck and neuropathy to my right arm and consequently ruined right hand and can't play guitar. I tried so hard to but my right hand just gets heavy and numb after about 15 mins and that's not even intensive playing.

Why would you give a shit about Kontakt? It's free, it works and it makes licensing your content a breeze, so what's not to love?

Yep. MODO GUITAR.
Until then, sampled guitars will have to do. Even then physical modeling synth guitar may not be convincing enough. But I can say that anything from OTS is pretty convincing because the tone and timbre is 100%.
So with physmod guitars you swap a little of that tone and timbre for a lot more dynamic and fluid performance that physmod can offer.
Though I am still not 100% convinced by MODO BASS 2 and that's the latest revision. It's getting awfully close though. Maybe version 3.0 will absolutely nail it. But it's not quite 100%. The harmonics and the subtle timbral differences tell the tale. But you would still be hard pressed to tell the difference between MODO and a real bass performance. So if the guitars are as good that would be convincing enough for me.

Yes. I own 4 of them (hollowbody blues, vintage gent, and the dry relic and songwriter for the acoustics) and might pick up the nylon acoustic as well since it sounds incredible even on its own and as it sounds you would be hard pressed to tell the difference between OTS and the real thing.
My question is, will physmod handle nylon strings better or will the MODO line be based on steel strings only? Nylon has a different sound to steel.
I bet MODO will be a game changer but you'll probably wait another 6 years lulz

not construction but accident related, years of progressive deterioration, my guitar playing severely altered, from metal chugging and heavy distortion, to a speed that makes old slowhand clapton look like a prog widdler!
and now it's more or less a couple of minutes recording "samples" for manipulation and the synths.
acoustic
total lack of finger strength to even fret properly. least my electrics are pretty low action
tried lighter gauges but found they only lasted a couple of strums
even slow, im very heavy handed!

That tells me absolutey nothing, especially given that I've been using it for 5 years or so, in three different host applications on half-a-dozen different computers and never had even the tiniest problem with it.

Then you are more forgiving than I. And I've been using it (the player) for around 10 years. And, like I said, "your mileage may vary".BONES wrote: Sat Jul 16, 2022 1:12 amThat tells me absolutey nothing, especially given that I've been using it for 5 years or so, in three different host applications on half-a-dozen different computers and never had even the tiniest problem with it.
Let's just say that I find all aspects of the interface to be irritating.

Just thought I'd second what a bunch have already said. I use Shreddage and Orange Tree Strawberry, and also agree that Modo Bass is the best as far as bass goes. But that's for picking, lead, powerchords and sustained chords... anything that offers automatic chord strumming sounds too stiff to my ears, although I'll on occasion use Native Instruments Strummed Acoustic if it's buried in a mix and just bringing a bit of texture.

Why is that a problem? All the controls I need are contained in whichever instrument I've got loaded into it. The only aspects of Kontakt's' interface I have to deal with are the browser and keyboard, both of which I find perfectly usable. In fact, I quite like both of those things, especially the browser and the ease with which I can re-order everything.Googly Smythe wrote: Sat Jul 16, 2022 1:29 amLet's just say that I find all aspects of the interface to be irritating.

But I am not you! Jeez, I'm not trying to persuade you to dump it. If you like it, go for it. I happen to think it's shit.BONES wrote: Sat Jul 16, 2022 1:57 amWhy is that a problem?
