Here's a challenge, what examples can you find where an instrument shares the characteristics that you would find in a digital audio workstation ?

I’m not sure what you’re getting at, but Bitwig has an internal modular.

What characteristics are you looking for? Almost every instrument shares the characteristic with a DAW of audio out. Most, if not all, support MIDI. The word "characteristics" is doing a lot of work in the OP's request.

KORG Wavestate in some respects - Virsyn Tera is another example - both combine multiple forms of synthesis with complex multi track sequencing

yepp Bitwig, using CLAP plugins there are no sharp boundaries between plugins and DAW

^^^ this is one instrument (2 Hives and Diva instances in an XY container with common modulation)

Renoise Redux comes to mind; a sampler plugin with some tracker/sequencer features, derived from a full-on tracker DAW.

FL Studio loads into a DAW as an instrument. Think about that for a moment... Everything that can run in FLStudio can be loaded and run as a single VST instrument within the DAW of your choice.

An Instrument That Behaves Like A DAW
