Soundforge 5 because I know it well enough and I have a pile of DX FX that work well with it.

Also Wavesurgeon for when I want to play around with drumloops.

Oh, Wavesurgeon! It's been quite a while since I've last seen it being mentioned!
Is it still available? All I know is that it was a real strong contender for ReCycle, but (unfortunately) it never became as popular. Has been cheaper back then and dealing with stereo files as well, at a time when ReCycle was only doing mono.

Soundforge. why? because that's the one i've got, i'd better like it.

WaveLab 5. It has absolutely everything I could wish for, including VST/DX plugin support, mastering and CD/DVD creation.
When I was younger I used to be in doubt. These days I'm not so sure.

Audition 1.5. Started off with CoolEdit 2000 and moved on up...

Yeah, it's still available.

Also, there's a new application (well, new to me) made by the same people called Mobius. Looks interesting - supports VST and DX too...

Anybody?

maybe analogX autotune is what you look for, not a wave editor, but it sets the root. ···

My favorite would be Cool Edit Pro, which I tried long ago but never bought. I didn't use audio editors that much to justify spending $300 in one. I haven't tried Audition, but I guess it is basically the same.

I have a "Limited Edition" of Cool Edit Pro that came with my audio interface, but unfortunately it doesn't do audio removal. I also own Acon Acoustica which is enough for my needs, although I might buy Magix Audio Studio someday, as it is much better.

I also do a bunch of sound editing within Sonar.

Green Red Brownell wrote:Given that WaveLab is so incredibly expensive, I suppose this is the place to repeat the fact that you can still buy a non-upgradable version of WaveLab 3.0 from Steinberg Canada for $99 CDN.
That's $81 USD, or 61 EUROS.

Shipping adds $30 CDN for U.S. residents and $80 CDN for International residents.

You can find a Canadian currency converter at...

Sounds like a pretty good deal. A U.S. resident can get WaveLab 3 for a paltry $105.30 USD, and that's including shipping.

I currently use Adobe Audition 1.5 (I have been using Syntrillium's Cool Edit Pro for many, many years before Adobe bought them out).

Cool Edit Pro/Audition, for me, is highly intuitive and it has an enormously powerful and stable audio engine. If the program does crash, it will remember the last spot you were at with your project the next time you re-launch the program.

Another great feature is the spectral view. When trying to remove clicks or pops, the spectral view allows me to "see" the waveform using a color-intensity-gradient for the sound's frequencies; the greater a signal's amplitude within a specific frequency range, the brighter the displayed color will be. This feature alone has made me stay with Cool Edit Pro/Audition all this time.

Also, the noise reduction, click/hiss/pop removal tools are quite powerful as well.

Finally, I always enjoy the slick and elegant GUI of the program.

Cheers,

Rabban

It's a dirty job. But somebody's gotta do it.
