How do I tell if the loaded plug-in is VST2 or VST3?

I can’t find an obvious way to tell when opening an old project in Ableton Live. U-he is the only dev I have found who flag it on the GUI. You would think it would say something in the “about” tab in the menus. What am I missing?
I am on Windows.

Maybe I am missing something, but why does it matter? Its still the same VST. If its VST2 you will have a pathway in your preferences to the folder where it lives. If its a VST3 it will have the usual default location in C:\Program Files\Common Files. Just delete the VST2 and the VST3 wil load.SHall1000 wrote: Mon Jul 18, 2022 9:52 pm I can’t find an obvious way to tell when opening an old project in Ableton Live. I didn’t think that was the case in Ableton Live, although I can’t remember why I think that. I’ll try it. Thanks
I still think it’s strange that devs don’t flag which version it is in the actual plug-in.

I think it's stranger that some DAW's don't show whether you're using the VST2 or VST3... Studio One does.SHall1000 wrote: Tue Jul 19, 2022 6:41 pm I still think it’s strange that devs don’t flag which version it is in the actual plug-in.

I’ve done some more googling and it doesn’t look like automatic VST3 substitution when the VST2 version is missing works in Live unlike some other DAWs.

Sorry that it isn't relevant to Ableton Live but this may help if a Cubase user finds your question in the future. In Cubase you will see three vertical bars to the right hand side of the plugin name in the dropdown list when you are adding a VST3 plugin. VST2s don't have the three bars.

That has nothing to do with the DAW, thats the developer who made the plugin.SHall1000 wrote: Tue Jul 19, 2022 8:36 pm I’ve done some more googling and it doesn’t look like automatic VST3 substitution when the VST2 version is missing works in Live unlike some other DAWs.
