Proclethya Technoport Soundbank The Analog Sound Waves

Post

PROCLETHYA has been around for a few years and it didn't get off to a great start. I can remember demoing it and thinking it was OK but not worth $50. It has lots of drive and saturation, both pre- and post- filter, which gives it a character not unlike Schwa's Olga, although it's a bit more versatile. The factory presets do it no favours but the three extra soundbanks it now comes with definitely have some very usable patches and great stepping-off points for me to add lots more drive and saturation. I've already saved half-a-dozen great patches and I've only been playing with it for half-an-hour.

It's got a nice GUI and some interesting, somewhat unique features. The Bipolar knob in the filter, for instance, is kinda cool and it's got a big, comprehensive FM section that I haven't really looked at yet. It also has a decent patch browser. It's simple but very usable and effective.

Anyway, for $12.60 you can pick it up, with three extra soundsets. for the next 9 days or so and I think it's worth at least checking out. Just don't judge it on the factory sounds.

I actually like and use this synth but I'm spoiled by the fact the two mod LFO's are limited to Filter (I'm guessing frequency cut?), Pitch and FM Amount with the 2nd LFO adding Filter Bipolar. Imagine if the oscillators and FMs' parameters as well as mix, pan, etc were modulatable. It already has a very good and useful arp/sequencer, plus its sounds being a little on the dirty side adds a nice grit to tracks.

It's definitely a lot better than I remember it being, maybe they've added more features since it launched? Or maybe I didn't spend enough time with it and was judging it by the factory presets? After spending a bit more time with it, it's a synth I can see myself getting quite a lot of use out of. It's not exactly light on CPU but neither is it a CPU killer.

This always seemed interesting sounding to me from the demos and the UI is just fantastic. Might try it out.

I tried it and, to me, after removing all the built-in FX from patches it sounded pretty uninspiring. YMMV, of course.
A well-behaved signature.

So don't remove the effects. They're as much a part of the signal chain as the filter or the oscillators so why not use them? To be fair, I kind of felt the way you do for the longest time but I eventually worked out that you get better results when you start using your brain than you do being churlish for no good reason.

That said, none of the patches I've made rely on anything other than the DRIVE and SATURATION in the filter. They work just as well without delay or reverb.

Ive been enjoying and using this for ages since I picked it up on a deal once. Has some really amazing patches in it. Takes a bit of care to program, but once you get the jist of it, it is a little power house.

I adore the arp / seq section.
Don't trust those with words of weakness, they are the most aggressive

^ the arp is wonderful.

I use it a lot, my goto for dirtier 'analaogue' sounds.

Just wish they'd think about the GUI, I really struggle to see the logic of having to select between the filter or the filter/amp envelopes, surely commonly used sections that should be on permanent display?

Didn't realise you meant that included the preset packs, worth buying for them at that price even if you own the synth.

Very, very good one. i check the demo.
BUT for me, top much CPU, maybe FL Problem (like Tone2)?

That's disappointing. For me it sits somewhere in the middle - it's not super-low CPU usage but it's not high enough that I'd worry about using as many instances as I need.

They spent all their time trying to make a UI that they thought looked cool, and forgot to make it clear and functional. I checked it out today. The core sound is very good, especially for aggressive stuff, but either there’s a lot more going on that’s obscured by a bad UI, or its too simple to be really useful. I don’t need that much, but it’s got to have at least the functionality of a RePro or Legend, or its not that useful to me, even for a great price.

I reckon it's deeper than you might think, only in unconventional ways. Things like separate filtering for each osc, for example, and multiple filter modes. The filter's Bipolar knob gives you even more options. Ditto for the Sub Osc being able to bypass the VCA envelope (although I have no idea where/why I might want to use that feature) and the comprehensive FM sections that I haven't even looked at yet. It's a little bit different and in a sea of sameness I think that has value, especially when it's as easy to work with as this is. It's got three envelopes, too, which instantly puts it ahead of the Repros or Legend. Being able to duck the delay and reverb effects is also a nice, fairly unique, touch.

It forces my Phenom II x4 925 (13 year old CPU) to its knees, but deactivating HQ-mode helps.

i tried again: one instance (sq preset) 25, five instances (other so presets) "only" 35. (Nevertheless...)
