I think it's the one other instrument really worth learning if you are a keyboard player needing to play many different instruments. Violin VIs are better than Guitar VIs simply because they are in keyboard terms monophonic (as discussed above).

I'm not brilliant on guitar, but I have my own style that works well enough and means I can do things impossible with VIs. I really like experimenting with finger shapes all over the place, I don't get that kind of feeling at a keyboard ever. It's just a different thing, and it really expands the scope of what I alone can do with all these lovely tools we have these days. I quite often do tracks where the only "fake" element is the drums, and those drums are so good you simply can't tell. In terms of emulating real instruments, if guitar is the worst I think drums is the best.
