How to conserve audio snippets?

How to do this, that and the other. Share, learn, teach. How did X do that? How can I sound like Y?

Hi,
we've all been there:
Thousands of new projects started, then lost interest in it, and moved on ....

When I listen to them a while later, I often find a bass line, keys, drums, etc. that stands out, but the whole project folder is just too chaotic, messed up, or the other instruments are not from further interest.

How to best preserve these snippets for further use?

I thought of maybe making a folder, where i put such snippets as 8 bar audio loops ... easy and all, but what if i then want to add another chord, or change the automations later?

How do you conserve / preserve / prepare your sound snippets, if you do so?

Any hints and live advices?

Usual process, for me, is:

- render the part out as a loop
- name it <the source project>_<track name>_xxxBPM_xBars_<key>_.wav
- then they go in my Sample folder,
- under the HomeMade header,
- in folders named things like: Drums, Bass, Synths, Vocals etc

eg StolenPopGenius_StabSynth_124BPM_4bars_Em.wav

Then I can search for parts sensibly. And if I really want to adjust something, I can get the project and adjust it from there. That doesn't happen often.. because

Mostly, I try to bounce out something useful I could use immediately. Kind of like my own Splice. But slightly rawer.
