Sampling OP7 for any other use than getting less CPU would be the stupidest thing imaginable, a complete waist of time… They would only get a bunch of dx7 presets without any way to tweak them. If I don‘t want to spend money, its faster and better to just get dexed instead… Those script kiddies can‘t hear the difference anyway and don‘t do any harm…
On the other hand, if I wanted to save CPU, I‘d just render the track. That could be even faster and is more precise…

There’s a lot of things that can be done with audio in apps like Renoise. Lots of commands become available for audio slices or samples. It’s a different way to work. People do stuff with audio in live as well. Many people will render a patch to a multi sample or loop just for doing different things. It’s not stupid at all.Tj Shredder wrote: Tue May 03, 2022 6:01 pm Sampling OP7 for any other use than getting less CPU would be the stupidest thing imaginable, a complete waist of time… They would only get a bunch of dx7 presets without any way to tweak them. I agree, I was reacting on the claim to avoid paying for a synth, that is the stupidest thing… Mangling sounds by sampling - go for it…

I picked up OPS7, and I'm really taken with it! It's a thing of beauty. But I'm surprised that something so faithful dispensed with the old, gold "EG Copy" function. I almost never want to copy/paste the entire operator! This feels like a lazy complaint, but I'm just so used to that workflow, and the omission is especially conspicuous when the envelopes aren't draggable. Did I miss something? Is this just me?

Obviously you've never used a tracker. As I've already explained in here, Trackers provide all kinds of step (line) based sample-commands, for doing all sorts of interesting things. It's just part of how trackers work. The ability to quickly convert a plugin patch to a sample-based instrument opens up a lot of possibilities in Renoise, etc.Tj Shredder wrote: Tue May 03, 2022 6:01 pm Sampling OP7 for any other use than getting less CPU would be the stupidest thing imaginable, a complete waist of time…
But I get it, since you simply aren't aware of these things, you exclaim your condescending conclusions with the rest of the world as if they are meaningful

Downloaded the Demo and have been playing with it in the last hour or so...
so far this are my toughts.
First impression: very well designed interface, easy to navigate, very straitforward, demo timing is a bit lamme 4 minutes to play it before you go silent is a bit too agressive, since majority of users will try to immediately launch some Syx files for comparison and only takes 2 minutes (LOL)
Now, about the sound, i never owned a DX7, so i am not the right person to tell...
but in comparison with Dexed or Arturia emulation, by my experience, this sounds a bit more dynamic, by that i mean, it seems the sound have more inner details between parts of it... less flat
Per example some patches in Dexed are said to be being very accurate with the original, and i have seen countless of videos in Youtube where DX7 entusiast test both, and Dexed is not as controlled, sort of speak when it comes to dynamics, either goes to high a bit or it goes a bit flatter...
While this OPS7 sounds very natural and very punchy, i instantly loaded my favourite DX7 factory patches just to check it out, and the bass ones sound incredibly good in this thing...
The bass 1 sounds tick and controlled, its like the low end has a much more defined tone, and clearly more high resolution in terms of sonic perspective (at least to my ears. and i again i dont have the original hardware, but in comaprison with what i know the other emulators, this is the idea i get)
Now, will i buy this? am still undecided...
Firstly, i have a great apreciation and respect for this type of work, bit accuracy emulation is something you dont see everyday, and this old hardwares will eventually start disapearing with time and or get broken because the components will eventually fail and will be hardware to replace them, so having this type of accuracy is such feat and such a good thing to have... just for that i think it would worth the 50 bucks..
but i am mainly interested in usability, and Dexed is allready fairly highly accurate, again while Dexed is not as good in terms of dynamics in my opinion, while it lacks some punch, and i can clearly notice that in the factory bass patches, yet, its nothing that you cannot "fix" with a simple compressor... i load a compressor with a more attack setup and it kinda gets on pair, despite not being the same or not as accurate...
Plus Dexed uses nearly 1% of cpu in my system, this thing uses like 8% CPU, which is understandable because if you go for higher emulation level, you have to expect a much higher CPU usage, perflectly resonable, its not even CPU intensive, but dexed is nearly not existant CPU usage in comparison, i can load 1000 DEXED project if i wanted, i cannot certainly do the same here, but thats not even the point.
And make not mistake, i am not saying this isnt worth it... OPS7 totally worht it, if you make Synthwave stuff or anything that uses typical FM synthesis from the 80s, this is a must, specialy if you are an audiophile type of person, but for me i am still undecided if i will purchase it or not...
If i do it, its not because of the usability, because Dexed is just great, its kind of a mix of amazing sound output vs the respect i feel for projects like this, and 50 bucks its not even expensive for a plugin...
i am likely to actually get it (we will see...)
So far i am still testing the plugin, exporting etc etc, i read there were some bugs with some notes not playing, i would like to know if anyone else lately have been finding issues with stability
the demo i have seems to work fine, it exported fine a test i made, but again 4 minutes... damn imagine your self rushing your pleasant times in 4 minutes, your wife would ask for a divorce in a no time!
Just my 2 cents.

Great plugin for a great price. I've changed my mind on this one, I didn't think I need another FM synth.
Just bought a few minutes ago....

I just bought this plugin and I'm struggling to understand how I'm supposed to use the SYX page -- I watched the demo video, I read the manual, nothing is helping.
First off, the 'Files' browser on the far left of the SYX page -- what location is this looking at by default? It contains a 'Files' folder and inside it, 'Factory' and 'User'. User is of course empty; well, I'd love to drop a bunch of my .syx banks in here, but I have no idea where this is actually located on my system. If I click 'set folder' it loads my OSX finder, but defaulting to a generic location, not the actual location OPS7 is currently looking at. I'm worried that if I choose a new location, I'll never be able to get back to this default location where the factory banks are stored. So: where is this location on my mac, so I can drop my syx banks into the 'user' folder ??
Secondly: dragging and dropping patches from the 'FILE' column to the middle A and B banks does absolutely nothing. While dragging, a green + icon appears -- seems promising -- however when I let go over either of the banks in the middle, nothing happens. Those two banks are empty, all the time. This behavior directly contradicts the whole demonstration video on the site, wherein the guy drags and drops multiple patches into that area and they immediately populate the bank.
Secondly, part two: in all the screenshots on the Plogue website / in the demo video, that area -- the two banks in the middle -- are labelled 'A' and 'B'. But in my plugin, it instead says 'Classic Only' on both, instead. Why? Is this why it's not working right out of the box?
I'm psyched about this plugin and 50 bucks is a great price; but I'm frustrated that the SYX page is so non-intuitive and nothing works as expected. Would really love some help, thanks!
EDIT: some progress on part two: if I load a preset (an OPS7 preset, not a patch from a syx bank), then the middle area turns brown, and A and B replace the 'classic only' text. And then I can load stuff via drag and drop.... but from the 'init' state of the plugin, this area goes black again, says 'classic only', and drag and drop fails / clear does nothing, etc etc.
So....basically you can't do anything in the SYX page from an 'init' patch...weird. What is the 'default' way to get this page activated and functioning? It's bizarre I'm having to load a random synth preset before I can do anything here....what am I missing?

I'm on a PC, but here are the locations I have for the syx files:
1. Factory: C:\Program Files\Plogue\chipsynth OPS7\Data
2. User: C:\Users\pough\Documents\Plogue\DX7 sysex
Regarding the "SYX" page, I don't use it much but I think it handles patch import AND export. The sections on the left import .syx patches into the A or B sections of OPS7. The Classic Only/A and B sections import OPS7 patches that can be saved to .syx files. At least, that's how it looks to me but like I said, I don't use it much. I just have OPS7, not any hardware.

Surely there must be consensus by now...

I solved the SYX issue, finally: you have to switch the 'Params' setting in the very top right of the plugin to 'Classic'. it defaults to 'Extended', and this makes most all of the SYX page non-functional.
re: the file browser --- I realize now that the 'set folder' button is to specifically set the location of the 'User' folder, not the whole window. That wasn't clear to me
