Fixed a ground problem in my modular case. It's got separate PSUs for the top and bottom half, and a couple of times recently when patching between halves with just a single cable, it was super noisy and weird. So I just ran a wire from one PSU enclosure to the other and that fixed it. It's not great that I had to do this instead of having much better ground connections already, but whatever works.

Between modular and software I'm beta testing more than a handful of new things. All very good, one of them particularly astounding. The combination of them inspired me to step outside my comfort zone a bit with today's recording session. Maybe it'll go on the next album, maybe it won't, but I like the results.

Now I'm sitting here contemplating rhythm and culture, which is one of those subjects where I know just enough to know not to try like I sound like I know what I'm talking about.

Temporally removed all the Acoustica plugins, now Cubase 12 loads without crashing....

I thought I'd update some Acustica products after receiving an email about the new core 18 and CPU efficiency improvements.
The following day (today), I opened their downloader/authorisation manager only to find no updates.

Recorded some MIDI piano, thought the rough idea was OK ish, now I think, meh.

Checked for Acqua and N4 updates, my products' updates might be rolled out later.

Recorded another track, this time very chill and closer to pure drone to counterbalance the last one I did.


Didn't use hardware synths at all this time -- a looped sample, a drone in VCV Rack(*), a two-voice drone with one instance of Easel V, and bass guitar with volume pedal and Valhalla Delay.

(*) Polygonal VCO modulating Tiare, through six (!) Doepfer Wasp filters (3 bandpass in parallel for mid, 3 more for side)... when I use software modular it's for crazy shit I can't do with my hardware, and vice versa.

Started soldering another nonlinearcircuits module! At this point I think I actually prefer these little SMD parts, but it's not really practical for prototyping.

Finished 8-bit cipher last night; today a new box arrived from Thonk. Soldered up a new Gaeto in my lunch break. (SMD already done, too easy!) Recorded 10 mins of rhythmic droney jam using both modules to create interesting modulation sources that were locked to the grid but phased against the barlines.
