And make not mistake, i am not saying this isnt worth it... OPS7 totally worht it, if you make Synthwave stuff or anything that uses typical FM synthesis from the 80s, this is a must, specialy if you are an audiophile type of person, but for me i am still undecided if i will purchase it or not...

I don't do synthwavestuff nor typical 80's fm , ops7 is an fm synth that lends itself to any style
WHh after 40 after it's release is the dx 7 still associated with cheesy 80 fm sounds , give it a rest please
To me it's one of the finest synth for techno ,ambient etc ..just know how to handle fm
Eyeball exchanging
Soul calibrating ..frequencies

Hi! Is the OPS7 developer here? Could you consider a request? This synth is amazing, but there's the only one thing I feel as an inconvenience — its archaic envelopes knobs. They are unintuitive. I think it might be pretty cool to replace them with something looking like the thing I drew in the attachment. I am sure the authentic look and feel are good things, but this is a softsynth on the computer screen, and its envelopes should live up to it. Please, consider an opportunity to add this look of envelopes as a switchable option in settings (but better like a main feature). Looking forward to it in the next update. Thanks!

I'm happy with OPS7 as it is, but if Plogue decide to approach it for a major upgrade, it would be cool to see this implemented.

I'm too lazy to find it but I believe somewhere in this thread the dev explains why it wasn't done this way and it isn't going to happen.

I don't have an issue with the existing envelope knobs. I don't particularly enjoy working with graphical envelopes, personally. I find them harder to get precise, accurate values dialed in. With the knob you have a specific value, you learn where that value gets you, you can extrapolate from that value what you'll get from larger and smaller values, etc. Moving a node around a graphical envelope, you (typically) lose that. He already has a visualization of the envelope for those who want it; interfacing directly with that visual isn't a win for everybody, though.

Surely there must be consensus by now...

Got it. Thanks!

10th order allpass (and a 16khz rolloff) so almost correct yes!

I have possibly found a bug with the envelopes.
(Not sure, if the original DX7 acts the same.)

With L2 being at maximum, the R2 timing is randomly changing from note to note. Also the envelope-curve-picture is not reacting to R2 in that case (it should show a plateau).
Lowering L2 a bit seems to fix that.

I made a short video to show the issue:

Also I have a feature request:
Could you add a switch in the "settings" menue to reverse the knob-direction for the Rate-Knobs?
It's so confusing, that they act exactly opposite to what every other synth does (well almost every other ... Dexed is doing the same).

Also what do you think about shifting the knobs a bit like that:
knobs.png
That way the Rate-knobs fit exactly between the levels where they're acting.
Maybe it's just me, but even though I already worked a bit with Dexed, this is still confusing me, and I need a few seconds to sort out, what is what.

Also the graphical display in general is rather irritating.
1) Levels at 50% on the knobs show almost 0 in the diagram.
2) And then there's this constant zooming of the x-axis, when adjusting rates, which makes it look like you're changing stuff, which is actually not changing at all.

In my opinion it would be a lot easier to understand those envelopes, if the display would not zoom at all.
Every rate could have the same maximum length in the display of 1/4 of the total space.
And then the scaling would be logarithmic. So you could still easily see differences with shorter timings.

Please stop trying to make a bit-accurate DX7 emulation an emulation of not-a-DX7, and let plogue do their thing, TY

Post

1. I reported a bug. It's still ok to report bugs, yes?
So please just STFU and let interested people try to help plogue in making a better product, TY.

2. What are you even complaining about?
The OPS7 UI has nothing to do with the DX7 UI.
(Also the VST already has additional functions.)
But somehow it's a problem, when people have a suggestion on how to make the UI better?
If you're happy, fine for you. But then just STFU, when other people have constructive input, TY.
