I think Softube is pretty good af Marshall sims. I can also recommend Amplitude 5 which is really great. Just sometimes to big and too many options which can vary in quality. But there's some fantastic sounds in that one

AT 5 is really great, but you may need to keep an eye on the CPU meter if you are using multiple instances of the plugin.
Windows 10 and too many plugins

Scuffham seems to no longer be actively developing.

I use the JH Gold (1959 Plexi), Brit 8000 (JCM 800), and Red Pig (200W Marshall Major) in AmpliTube a lot.

For the cabs, I use the Satch Green a lot, which gets you vintage 20W Greenbacks. These are considered by many to be the Holy Grail of speakers. I also like the Closed J120 cab, which gets you vintage alnico JBL D120F speakers. They are also a good stand-in for Altec Lansing 417-8Hs.

Another good one is the Closed 25 C, which is a vintage 25W Celestion Greenback. These I think are the old heavy magnet Greenbacks, like what Ritchie Blackmore used in the '70s, not the modern 25-watters.

Try all of the various Marshall cab models and experiment with mic placements. The Marshall tone you're looking for is in there somewhere.

One thing I do a lot is put a second mic at a lower volume on the cab and invert the phase, then find the right spot to gently mellow the peakiness of the convolution. This gets a smoother, more natural tone.
THIS MUSIC HAS BEEN MIXED TO BE PLAYED LOUD SO TURN IT UP

To get a good sounding 800 emulation you need one of a Soldano (SLO 100) :D

I remember listening to Kuassa's Caliburn and thinking that it sounded perfect. The best ever. I'm glad I demoed it first. The guy on the video got a great sound but it sounded s*ite with my own setup for some reason. Be sure to try the demos if you haven't already.

The answer to your question has to be, what works best with your gear, on your system.
Anyone who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities.

Kuassa Vermilion sounds and is possibly the identical Marshall plexi sim with 1x8 and 1x10 inch cabs in the STL Tones Howard Benson plug, you literally cant tell them apart..these two plus mercurial Spark and Neural DSP Nameless are supposed to sound closes to modded plexis.

I am totally suspicious of STL tones as they removed the older cabinet GUI which used to let you swap between all the cabs in one screen,

and doing so with the addition of removing info about the speakers, etc is not cool, its what made them unique.

IK Multimedia Amplitube just feels half dimensional, I met Enrico in the 90s when he started the company, very talented person, wonderful but the results today with amplitude are ok, not anything near Neural DSP, just better then NI Guitar RIG. which is 1/4 real.

The last published info by scuffHamamps was July 2022, since when did they stop development?
