Well, I wouldn’t call an 18 month delay since M1 was launched “instant.”

Oh come on now.Funkybot's Evil Twin wrote: Fri Jul 22, 2022 1:44 pm Well, I've got LX480 Complete, LX480 Essentials, VSR-S24 (I know, they pulled this recently to focus on the long-delayed update - don't know why they don't still sell the current version), and Sonsig-A (which after ValhallaVintageVerb is my second most used verb).
So they've got 4 products out there. I agree it's annoying they are slow, and you were probably using hyperbole, but Relab makes incredible products (plural).
LX480 Essentials is just a lite version of LX480 Complete. So that’s really one product. VSR-S24 was replaced by vapourware, as you said. So that just leaves Sonsig-A and LX480.
But for more years than I can remember, we’ve been teased with a full TC 6000, a QRS, and possibly a 224XL. It became beyond ridiculous long ago.
I have ZERO expectation that we will see any of it. I’d just be happy to have VST3/M1 versions of Relab’s TWO actual products.

Yeah I knew already it would not happen. People dont understand software developement it seems. Also external libraries used... etc.masterhiggins wrote: Fri Jul 22, 2022 4:39 pm Well, I wouldn’t call an 18 month delay since M1 was launched “instant.”

I mean, no, but not sitting here, 2 years later, with a half dying intel machine and everything (~200 plugins) would be ready, except that one bunch of monkeys in ****** who seems to invest more in their glorious looking web design than in mid-2005-looking bugfests of studio standards.legendCNCD wrote: Fri Jul 22, 2022 4:07 pm I mean what did you think would happen? Instant support for everything?

No, all of their major plugins are native. RX, Ozone, Neutron, Nectar, even Neoverb: https://asaudio.tech/developer/174asstudioton wrote: Thu Jul 21, 2022 5:14 pm - Izotope
it is unclear what and when. RX 9 is only native for now. it is not clear too what will happen with Exponential plugins
As for NI, Kontakt is already native.

There are so many programs, apps and vst's that do work with Apple Silicon that it shouldn't matter too much by now.
Also if we run the DAW and vst's in Rosetta mode it will replicate an Intel i3, i5, i7, i9 better than an Intel processor with very low to no heat generated. No more fan noise..
The M1 can run iOS apps as well now, so Koala sampler for example is a really good software and you can now put the iOS apps on MacOS for better compatibility. Plus iOS apps are cheap af
I think the M1 processor is the best thing to have come out in a long time. There are more powerful M1 Pro/Max/Ultra processors but there are so many people editing 4K video and creating music (450 channel stress test in studio one) on the base model M1 Air, that I've got no excuse if my music sounds terrible on the base M1 Pro.
Think of an instrument that you like, and if you really need those pre-processed samples just put them in a folder and make your own vst. I have put all of my favourite drum samples into a vst and it is all I use for drums now. It is M1 compatible.
If I am able to make a vst work, these big companies should also be able to do the same. But if they aren't just extract the sounds and put them in a cheap ass vst skin and render what you want (vst/vst3/au).
I'm not sure if i can put links here, but you can see my cheap ass looking vst on my page -> http://www.on-cars.com/on-beats.html <-
It means we can all use the sounds we want on the M1. I might make a one shot vst with like 100 of my most used and favourite production sounds. If I do this I can cut down from 7 to probably just 3 or 4 vst's installed on the Mac

because they work much better than intel?legendCNCD wrote: Fri Jul 22, 2022 4:07 pm I dont quite get it why everyone would have to rush to new chips anyway.

apple said they'll transition to AS 100% by the end of 2022 iirc, and then the unanswered question is for how long they'll support rosetta.sQeetz wrote: Fri Jul 22, 2022 9:43 pmI don't remember any deadline being given.asstudioton wrote: Thu Jul 21, 2022 5:14 pm It will soon be two years since apple introduced the m1 chip and gave the deadline for software adaptation to developers![]()
my guess is, and i base that on absolutely nothing, that Macs shipped in late 2024 will ship with an OS that won't support Rosetta anymore.

I think Rosetta will always remain active. I'm surprised Intel didn't sue them for what they've done
In my opinion Apple has literally taken over the computing technology industry for creatives, and when Samsung created their laptops they should have put the S22 processor inside running permanent DeX, instead of fitting old Intel chips that get very hot on one side of the laptop when I do something as simple as check the performance/processor specs and RAM.
This is why Intel is dead
I hate my Remapping Intel laptop for the same reason. Open it up and the fans go crazy. Send an email and it goes crazy. I will open it soon to check for dust and clean, but that type of computer setup is alien to me now.
The laptop for software tuning is hidden behind the TV and I use my iPad with teamviewer to work on customer cars, because I no longer want to hear the fans or feel the heat on my lap

they didn't keep first Rosetta forever, but I guess it's different this time around because Rosetta1 ran like garbage.ON BEATS wrote: Tue Jul 26, 2022 8:47 am I think Rosetta will always remain active. I'm surprised Intel didn't sue them for what they've done![]()
Intel can sue apple as much as they can sue AMD i guess

There's nothing to sue over. Intel doesn't have a patent on binary translation and caching.ON BEATS wrote: Tue Jul 26, 2022 8:47 am I think Rosetta will always remain active. I'm surprised Intel didn't sue them for what they've done![]()
The difference between now and the PowerPC era is the sheer amount of Mac software. People forget how niche Mac was when it didn't run Intel.

Also, the original Rosetta was a real-time emulation layer built into MacOS X that actually ran the PPC code on top of OSX.
Rosetta2 is a recompiler program that is installed separately that turns the Intel assembly into Apple Silicon assembly in memory at launch.
So there’s no real reason for Apple to stop making it available.

I'm sure Apple will phase it out. Because Apple gonna Apple. But afaik (I wasn't really using mac back then) rosetta 1 was super slow and unstable and everything got a lot better when they got rid of it. Rosetta 2 seems completely different and runs great.
That said a while back I went on a mission to get rid of all rosetta background processes that were running on my machine and it instantly is even more snappy with better battery life. Rosetta does still drain things which is something Apple will use as justification to kill it sooner than you think.
