Hi,

coming from FL Studio I'm used to load drum samples in separate mixer channels and just program midi notes in each channel:

my question is: how can I emulate the same process in pro tools?
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

You have to use an AAX-plugin sampler like Pro Tools own Groove Cell or an external tool like TAL or EZ-/Superior Drummer.

Then you can simply program your drums in a midi clip. :tu:

Yes I'm familiar with this method, however I'm trying to emulate the same process I had in fl studio, because loading several aax in different channels is more ram consuming than having several wavs in different channels.

I'm also familiar with the method of loading a single plugin (such as battery) and then routing each drum part to different audio channel...but it's more time consuming and less intuitive than the fl studio method 😁

So is it impossible to just load a simple wav sample and write a pattern in the piano roll like in fl?

Well, the initial setup and drum routing is definitely a little more work, but once that's done, you can simply save a session template and use that in the future.

If you want to trigger drums from the piano roll, the samples need to be loaded into an instrument plugin first. There's no way around that.

For me Pro Tools is great for post-production in the first place. Maybe it just doesn't fit your music workflow very well?

Oh well...I guess that that's a point in favor for fl :D
Pro Tools does excel in other areas though.
Thanks a lot anyway :tu:

What about Waves CR8? Place one in each channel and drop your files in there…

I was doing the same but CR8 adds an annoying click at the end of the sample, do you know why it does that? And no, it is not sample related.

Studio One default sampler is also the same, adds the click at the end. (and I also hate that sampler too, that's why I used CR8 in the first place)

When I put the same sample directly to playlist or play it with XO, it does not have a click at the end.

What else can you suggest as a simple sampler?

You don't load several AAX in different channels. You can use Avid GrooveCell.

It does seem like you only get GrooveCell with Subscriptions or an Active Support Plan, though. That seems a rather sketch thing to distribute a basic necessity to users of a DAW that is lacking quite a few necessities for music production.

"Notifications for Nothing" are annoying. Blocking me in return is a good way to avoid this.
