What's up with Chickensys these days? I downloaded it like 8 years ago and it was a pure hell to use. Buggy and crashing a lot. I am looking for a way to convert some of my AKAI programs to Bitwig and different formats and it seems that only Chickensys 7 can do that.

However, I just tried their supposed Trial of Chickens 7. A train wreck.

I mean they suggest you try this version. If this plays nicely then I should be fine.

First, they sent me an email with a code and a link which does not work at all. You have to manually copy and paste it. Ok, so I downloaded it.

The first thing to notice is - I run the installer and in the very first window which opens in front of you, they say it's Translator V6, not 7 as they claim. What's up with that?

But anyway I install and on the first run, they ask me for email and code. I enter these and bam. program closing down and I can go watch Santa Barbara or something. Tried on several computers, same.

Seeing that they implemented ilok and some new formats I was under the impression that they got their mind together. I guess not.

Has anyone used it to successfully convert from something to say Bitwig sampler or TAL?

Nothing really changed in that 8 years since you bought it. Its still a buggy nightmare, and the support is still pretty much a joke that blames your system any time the software doesn't do what its supposed to (which is quite often).

Ouch. Thank you for your response.

Sadly, I have to agree to that and support is the rudest bunch I ever came across.

^ ditto the supposed support.

Totally forgot, but @moss posting reminded me he has an app that may help..

Im assuming your banks are in an old Akai sampler format like an akp file or something?? You can natively open those in the MPC Software (might even be able to use the demo/trial for it) and resave them in the newer XPM format, and Moss's converter can make those into SFZs you can load right up into TAL Sampler. I do not remember if it can load the older file format's but it can open S5000/S6000/Z Series patches no problem (but the envelope/filter settings are usually gone) and can save them into the new MPC format.

Funny enough, Translator can convert to XPM patches and the last time I used it 4-5 years ago (Translator 6) it fills in ALL the parameters in them even if they're empty. A 3k bass patch blows up to 530k or so when you make one with Translator heh. Instead of just converting the parameters the patch actually uses (the MPC only populates the settings you use), it fills in ALL of them. I had a 500MB Akai cd blow up to over 1GB when I converted it to XPM's with Translator 6. That along with it crashing reading and converting Akai cd's all the time, I gave up on it and never looked back.

Thank you everyone this is some good info and guidance.
