Why do use Logic?

One of the downsides to Logic is that latest and greatest are usually tied to the latest macOS version. Sometimes that requires a whole new machine just to get the latest upgrade to macOS. I haven't had issues with plugin scanning not remembering installed plugins but I'm on an M1 Max machine on Monterey and I'm running the latest version of Logic.

How are you finding the M1 Max processor?

I'm use the base level M1 for music production and it is powerful af!

Yep. The M1 is plenty powerful for my needs.
I paid €179 for LPX in 2013. That's 9 years, now. I'm on my 2nd Mac in that time.
The package cannot be beat. The fx are better than in other DAWs I've tried. The program is so deep, I don't think anyone has completely plumbed its depths.
If anyone can't make actual music with it, they should find another gig/hobby.

The M1 is great. Logic, if I'm honest, I use mainly for the autosampler and grabbing sounds from Logic's and my VSTs so I can use samples instead of a host of instruments. It was my main deal for a while, but I caught it recording on unarmed MIDI tracks (if no others are armed) and its general workflow just doesn't quite mesh with me for whatever reason.

I purchased Logic and truly I do love the sound quality that comes from it a long with the amazing effects bundled with it, but I always end up back in Ableton. The whole hotkeys and weird way of editing midi and all is strange to me (having to use Shift click to insert a note). It can all be changed of course, but I can't be arsed. If I had learned on it originally I'm sure it would seem normal. Every time I watch Disclosure produce with it though, it always makes me want to give it another go...

Logic works well on small laptop screens and large screens, and with both mouse and trackpad. So with a laptop you can move around, work in different ways, and it's comfortable.

Can I even still buy Logic if I have macOS Catalina 10.15.7 and no intention to update? It says on the app store that it requires Big Sur now. Fckn stupid.

I tried Logic/Garageband a few times but can't get used to the interface.

Opening a new track and having to select the type of input is a little annoying. I prefer the main studio screen like what Studio One/Waveform/Cubase look like.

The drag and drop feature for vst's and fx in Waveform is much faster and I assume Studio One will be the same.

If there is a GOOD quick start guide for Logic on youtube please share it with me

Not my favorite either if you do it that way... but there are plenty of tools to do stuff in other ways. You can load a template project when you launch Logic. You can have tracks/channel strips pre-loaded or start with a number of empty tracks. 'X' key opens the mixer and there you can load saved channel strip presets/templates which includes instrument, fx, sends, etc.

to be honest i've been considering upgrading Waveform because they say it'll make better use of the processor cores instead of just one

Adding a new track in Cubase is exactly the same as Logic.
Click the + button above the track list, and you're greeted with options as to what type of track to create, and there's all your choices for an audio track, MIDI track, virtual instrument, etc.. The two are no different when it comes to this other than the interface used to add the track. I just moved back to Cubase from Logic in December and aside from key commands, the two are not that much different at all (and I havent used Cubase since VST32/5.0 when I switched over to Emagic's Logic Audio Platinum).

But I don't use it so it's fine.

Also, selecting an instrument is too much clicking (for me). In Waveform its drag and drop onto whatever track I want. Waveform 12 has changed this feature, and you have to click through boxes just to get a vst open. I'm sure that can be changed in settings or by adding macro shortcuts (which works really well in WF11).

I recently learned that templates can be made in Logic, to remove this annoyance. If I can set up 10 tracks of varying vst's pre loaded, that would be insane! I could work with that, and Logic would make better use of my M1 Processor. I am not against Logic, to any hardcore fans and lovers. I am wanting to get my ideas in the laptop as quickly as possible

I haven't used Cubase since 1999 on the Atari, and that was easy because I just selected the channel then was able to turn the wheel or press a button on the sound module for quick selection.

Create a template however you want it to be then FILE->SAVE AS TEMPLATE give it a name and save it.
Then:
PREFERENCES-> GENERAL-> PROJECT HANDLING
Startup Action : Create New Project Using Default Template

then select your Default Template by clicking on the button next to it, select your file.

Next time you start Logic, no more dialog. It simply just starts the way you set it up.

You know you can customize what you see when Logic starts up dont you? You can have it NOT pop up that template window and just sit there waiting for you to go to File->Open if you want or you can setup your own templates and have those available as well.

He basically said that he just learned about templates just one sentence after your quoted part in that very post. Asking for help how to do it and he got it a few (2) posts above yours.
