Fin fact: a window in X (linux) doesn't need to be rectangular. It can be a circle as well.

There are only two "popular" apps using this feature: a clock and some eyes that follow the mouse cursor. If these did not exist, the feature were deprecated and culled decades ago.

Circular is just another way of showing a loop, so is hopeless for a daw unless the daw is just for playing loops. Is probably hopeless for multitracking - think how would you show a circular form of 27 tracks of varying lengths for example

That's easy, the length could be represented in a segmented way. Each line represents the length of a clip / note loop, and the position of the line represents the time on the timeline (clockwise). The line contains the notes the instrument plays or the sample which is played. As you roll over the lines, information pops up on a display to tell you what data it contains. Each spiral represent a sequence, spiral 1, 2, 3, etc, which would be played through.

thanks that makes more sense and seems worth exploring as there could be contexts where it is a better visualisation of the piece
