Does anyone know whether something like this exists? I'm in a small home studio that already has too many devices. Every piece of equipment I find has 8+ knobs, faders, buttons, and usually something else attached like a keyboard, all of which I don't need.
I ended up building this:
Does something like this already exist out there? Is it something anyone would even want, or is just too niche? I'm thinking of trying to build and sell it if other people would be interested (after making it look nicer, of course).

An expression pedal controller is just a potentiometer making a synth associate that pedal with some functional midi CC or just sending it to midi out.
So a potentiometer in a box to a TRS plug do the same.
Anybody with a hardware synth has loads of knobs that send midi CC that can be associated to some plugin parameters. The synth I use as master keyboard, Nordlead 2X, I put a simple adhesive tejp with CC number for each knob. So I can just use a midi learn feature for a knob as needed.
So, NO, I don't see any use for this. But I am not everybody.

I just revived a BCN-44 to use with my Zoia. The housing is a bit large, and obviously it has a screen/presets/buttons etc too, but 4 pots/enocders is about as minimal as I'd want for a MIDI controller.

I'd want 4 at least as well.
The first 4-channel mixer I bought 40 years ago from Tandy, I gutted it out and connected the fader potmeters just like a dual analog joystick. Connected to a soundblaster's joystick port, it functioned (with some special software) as 4-fader controller.

Assuming you already have a smart phone or tablet, there are plenty of customizable MIDI controller app that would allow you to make a simple controller like this.

Generally i prefer endless encoders to knobs anyway, with LED feedback.
