You don't actually need it... if you want one, then you want one. Does one need a tablet? The only time I use it is in bed when I'm too tired to get up and fetch the laptop. (which means disconnecting it from the hub, getting the mouse.....) ugh

I have an iPad Mini.. i think mk3? Even youtube has issues with it, i mostly use it for Netflix and once a few fullmoons for i think already depreciated Mira for Max. Loved Mira tho.

I wanted to buy a Mini for Logic Control and for RME TotalMix so i don't need to randomly juggle windows on a session, for stuff like phantom power and gain.

but 500€ for a remote control feels excessive. and mini is small for netflix lol

I would say it's about on the same level as a current lower mid tier laptop with a dedicated graphics chip. I.e., it doesn't have a lot of processing power. Well, no surprise, considering that you can already get it for about 420 €. (For comparison, my old Intel Xeon E3-1230 v3 from 2013 in my former desktop PC, coupled with a GTX 1060 got the same frame rates on Shadow of the Tomb Raider, in full HD resolution, not 1280x800.)

I like Steam, and I like the idea, but, gotta stay realistic about what's possible for the money.
You are showing benchmarks for games. In that context all laptops with Intel integrated GPUs will handily get beat by a mid tier laptop with a dedicated GPU. For use as DAW (which is what the discussion is about) the CPU is actually quite performant, it's not a 12900K but it should perform well enough. About on par with an Intel based MacBook Air.

This page https://openbenchmarking.org/vs/Process ... 0i7-1165G7 is a better indication of what the CPU performance looks like. GPU performance is not as relevant to DAW performance, though it does matter for UI performance and in that case the APU should handle that pretty easily.

That being said I don't think any will realistically buy a Steam Deck for making music but if you did buy one for games etc and maybe wanted to test making music on Linux its more than capable imo.

I'm sure someone out there, is going to bring out a magnifier for it, like Sega did with the Game Gear. From 7" to 14" :-D

Game Gear Magnifier

Honestly if I had bought one, I'd be looking at different ways to make use of one. Back in 2008 I bought a PSP for £100. I used it for few years for watching movies whilst in the bath and listening to music whilst on buses trains, and when flying on the airlines. I remember installing an operating system on it. I had a few games, but I didn't really use it for that.
