One Synth Challenge #162: V-Station by Novation (Plan C Wins!)

On my macos 10.14 the V-Station GUI does not display any controls or text. Any idea how to fix this?

Mix 5 - Rough Edit, unfinished WIP, jammed my ideas down, no real sequencing or polish.

Not an entry but made to the rules of the competition, I just wanted to tag along but not enter, I hope thats ok.

Ableton Live 11 Suite (11.0.10)
4 Instances of novation v-station vst. All 4 are set to midi files.
2 instances are set presets. 1 instance is a very slight modified set preset. 1 instance is a preset made by me, i made the kick as there was no set preset or it.
1 effect = Compressor in ableton (on the custom kick), compressor has some custom settings.
1 effect = Limiter in ableton (on Master) called Push. To increase volume levels.
No idea why the first few beats of my kick are different (higher frequency) that is a project gremlin when bumped to audio mp3 that i think turned out alright.
The volumes are better not perfect.

Which DAW (Bitwig?)? And which version: AU, VST2, VST3? VST3 works fine for me on macOS 12/Bitwig. Maybe try the opposite VST2/3 from the one giving you problems?

Thanks for the help, I again reinstalled it, still the same problem, no matter if VST2, VST3 or AU version, using recent Bitwig or Renoise. Will try on my M1 macbook later.

Long time listener, first time submitter.

I am interested in entering this for the first time. I usually use Qtractor on Linux, but this is a Windows only soft synth.

What are my option? Is there a way to get this running under Linux? I also have a Windows 7 partition, is there any free software I can use? Or should I just install the soft synth on my Windows XP Pentuim 4 machine, run it with a stand alone host and trigger it via midi and then I can use the normal Qtractor?

Hey! I've got the VST3 64 bit running on ArchLinux using the Carla bridge, perhaps that's an option for you. Or you can try yabridge though that didn't work too well for me with this synth in Ardour, didn't try Qtractor though.

Thanks, yeah I have it running on the Carla bridge. It seems prone to Xruns even though it should be pretty low resource consumption, seeing as my computer is 8 years newer when it came out (has a modern i5-2310).

I have made a hoover patch and have just been working on a bass drum patch. Will do a snare patch and maybe some cymbal patches next. I've never created drum sounds before. Should be interesting.

Hello Hanz,

same here, have no idea how to fix it. I guess V-Station isn't suitable for the newest MacOS, such as some other older plug-ins aren't as well. I decided to definitely skip this round. I'll be on board again as soon as possible.

Anyone else having problems getting the arp to stay in time?
I have to mess with the settings to reset it.

Yes, arp goes out of sync here too. Ditched it and just using good old BlueArp instead

Used 45 Instances of VStation in Reaper

Going for a more atmosperic downtempo electronic thing... Do I like V station as a synth? Yes, it sounds great, and now it's free. Is it a problem to work with? Yes. It resets my presets on every occasion it gets. I rendered so much stuff out my track is basically all samples. I literally could not close out of the DAW until I was done with the project which is why I got this project done in one day. Inspired by the movie 5th Element.

Hi Loris. I really liked your track. I'm sorry to give you bad news, especially because of the difficulties you've had working with V-Station, but Raum is not free. You can see for yourself on the NI website. I know it has been given away for free in the past.
