Twangstrom is a spring reverb emulation. The SR303 is not a spring reverb; as Ive already said, its based on BBDs. An emulation of a spring reverb will not sound like a BBD reverb. BBDs are entirely electronic, springs are not.
Most plugins emulating BBDs are just doing delay (and some, well many in fact, of the cheap alleged 'reverbs' based on BBDs were actually delays, eg the Realistic one that Audio Damage emulated as the Ratshack Reverb plus), but there was a multitapped BBD chip that was used for some 'better' BBD reverbs, and as far as Im aware, there's only one emulation of that...

Count the SR303 as one of those cheap alleged reverbs, btw, the service manual says its based on the MN3008, which has a single 2048-stages delay.
In which case, U-he's BBD delay emulation, Colour Copy, would be far closer than U-he's Twangstrom.
Or maybe even the aforementioned AD plugin.

The closest I know of is this library for Acustica Nebula. It's from a Pioneer SR60

SR-60 used an MN3008 as well, so yeah, possible.

Disingenuous selective quoting. It was actually 'Any Spring reverb VST like Pioneer SR303'
And repeated explicitly in the first post, if you care to reread
The SR303 is not a spring reverb as Ive said repeatedly. Its one of many devices merely called 'reverbs' which are actually BBDs delays.the OP wrote: "Hey guys, I have an old Pioneer SR 303 Spring Reverb and would like to get a VST which sounds as close to it as possible"
An actual spring reverb VST is not going to be like the Pioneer SR303, because it wasnt a spring reverb.
A spring reverb VST is not going to sound right.
Which Ive already explained.
but well...
ok...
no problem
Yeah, I said exactly that already.then let's have a look at anothe u-he: colour copy

Ok I see now, it's the word "spring" that is the issue here. That is always how these Pioneer units was referred to by many DJ's in my circles.
I am going to try out the Bucketverb [thanks] and compare it to my 303, get back to you. That has always been the issue, trying to get a plugin to sound the same as this Pioneer. MReverb is the closest I have been able to find which is why I had purchased it but definitely not the same tone of sound effect as the 303.

I had tried Ratshack plugin which works if I remember correctly similar to the hardware unit I had back in the 80s.whyterabbyt wrote: Tue Aug 09, 2022 7:09 pm Most plugins emulating BBDs are just doing delay (and some, well many in fact, of the cheap alleged 'reverbs' based on BBDs were actually delays, eg the Realistic one that Audio Damage emulated as the Ratshack Reverb plus), but there was a multitapped BBD chip that was used for some 'better' BBD reverbs, and as far as Im aware, there's only one emulation of that...

Regarding bucketverb, all I can say is WOW!!! On the bud's laptop itself this sounds great but I will try to test it on my rig today alongside the 303 and report back but so far the sound on the laptop is crystal clean and very close to the 303.

They exist too - all the predecessors to the SR 303 were spring-based (101 with tubes even), but then Pioneer radically changed the technology (and thus the sound) while keeping a similar look.mikehende wrote: Wed Aug 10, 2022 11:31 am Ok I see now, it's the word "spring" that is the issue here. A bucket-brigade device sounds nothing like a spring reverb at all.
If you were looking at spring-reverbs that is absolutely the to-be-expected outcome. That has always been the issue, trying to get a plugin to sound the same as this Pioneer.
