It's been confirmed on the NI Forum that there won't be a Battery 5.
So I don't think the situation is different for FM8 or Absynth.

the same story with gforce: they dont update minimonsta and oddity, so they are selling it cheap ( they do it in a clever way - only in promo periods )

If it is the end of FM8, it will be a shame, i'd loved to have seen a major update to it. But I fear it's successor will arrive in the form of a Reaktor ensemble. (At least it wouldn't surprise me)

I think with Dexed available, a better open-source option would be
Absynth, where there isn't an existing project of similar capability
already in progress. Vital might be in the ballpark with wavetable support.

As long as presets can be created for FM8, the end is not yet arrived.

Those FM8 remix videos have inspired my purchase of FM8 some years ago.

I'd personally take that $10, wait until the BF sale at Plogue, and get OPS7 as the "no-brainer" for $25 or so. But if you have an extra $10 and really good eyesight, then FM8 might work ok for you. Or the F'em for $30 is/was on sale.
